Changes to boat licence fees in 2017-18
We’ve just announced the changes we’ll be making to licence fees in 2017-18. Private and business boat licence fees will rise by 2.5% from 1 April 2017. Having capped licence fees to inflation for the past three years, the 2017 increase anticipates next year’s prevailing inflation rate which is widely forecast to rise between now and next summer. The rise in licence fees will raise income to ensure that we can continue to sustain the increased spend on waterway maintenance over recent years. This has seen an improvement in the structural condition of the waterways and a significant reduction in the amount of disruption experienced by boaters (with almost 300 days fewer of unplanned navigation closures compared with 2014/15). canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/blogs/the-boaters-update/boaters-update-21-october-2016#fees

Could have been a lot worst I guess - least we aren't talking hundreds of extra pounds per boat...
Now if they would take that money and do what they say...improve the canals (over grown vegetation, properly working gates & paddles & maybe a bit more depth between the bottom and the top would be really nice).

Strange that they forgot to mention their rising cost of Legal Actions in their statement isnt it

Personally, I think CRT should be paying us, we are the actors who bring the whole canal network to life at enormous expense to ourselves. Lewis Hamilton doesn't have to pay to drive his car around a Formula One track on a Sunday afternoon.

I've been saying for ages that CRT should see us as an asset rather than a hindrance. Looking at boats going through locks gives so many people enjoyment. In fact, what is a canal without boats? Oh yeah, it's called Stoke Bruerne...

Hmmmmm, I see they're blaming projected inflation. I only heard those figures on the news this week so did they just decide that or was it just a good guess? I guess we'll have to wait until February/March to see how much the E.A licence will increase by.
