I have a daughter who is critically ill in the hospital, the staff have been great, but last night one of the nurses phoned me at 2.30 in the morning to tell me they are moving her to another hospital and she thought she should tell me ffs I nearly had a heart attack dont they think what calls in the middle of the night might mean. And to top it all I had to be in work at 6 this morning

And you had then went to visit your daughter directly after work to find her bed / room empty - that surly would have given you more of a fright if even for only a second or two? ETA - hopefully your daughter has a speedy recovery

I don't think the hospital staff should be blamed for timely updates. However, I'm sorry to hear of your daughter. I hope it ends better than it sounds.

I expect they were doing what they felt was the right thing, I pretty much echo Loafer's comments above. Keeping fingers crossed for you both.

I echo most of what's been said above,I sometimes think they're between a rock and a hard place when it comes to passing on information. I hope that things work out and your daughter recovers ok.

I am sorry to hear your daughter is in hospital. I fully understand the reaction to the phone call.......... three years ago my wife was in a coma, I had been at her bedside for three ? four days (it's all a bit of a blur) I went home to have a shower and try and sleep for a bit.
About 11/11.30 the phone went, I woke from a deep sleep shot across the room and grabbed the phone to find that it was one of her sisters waffling about something or another. I think I was silent for a few minutes while she chatted on, as I gradually got myself back under control. I then proceeded to try and verbally rip her guts out.
I decided after this that they must have done a bloody good job patching up my ticker as I don't know what my blood pressure and pulse rate reached ........ it was probably clean off the clock.

I hope your daughter recovers soon.
The nurse/sister did the right thing. In the morning her file would be gone, her bed remade and she would be in another hospital. The day staff would have no triggers for them to remember to ring you, except a note amongst many others in the day book that your daughter had been move. She made sure you knew where your daughter was and what was going on.

I agree with what others have said and have had experience of what Bettina mentioned (looking at the empty bed and hearing the nurse say 'I'm sorry but...' - it took me more than a few seconds to recover from that one, my wife had just been moved to ITU but my brain didn't process that).
However I have a bit of an understanding of the stress you must be under, it's good to have a bit of a whinge when under stress and sometimes in your position you can't turn to those close because you know they are also suffering. I'm sure the forum will support you if you want to let of a bit of steam every so often.
