I'm fully aware he won't be a full time farmer and has some fantastic knowledge around him.
I do think he is running it but not necessarily farming.
He was too busy for other commitments this summer while harvesting.

The fact he is finishing his second year farming without any cameras suggests he's not just doing it for the cash. We know most of it is for TV, but it does make good TV. I've no doubt they are recording this year's harvest and show it as next year's as filming has just commenced. The game shop will make a killing. It's just his latest toybox. He sure isn't 'just doing it for the cash'. Whether or not the farm makes any money is irrelevant.

I'm generally unaware of any TV things as don't use the service but I did just Google this and find the shop is called "diddly squat". Quite a good name then.

Yeah it's named after the farm because it was producing didly squat. Quite amusing.

The very few times I've visited a 'farm shop' I've found their prices higher than those in the supermarket. They are cutting out the middle men and avoiding transport costs so their prices should be lower. But they aren't. Me thinks they are taking the piss. The exception is the farms who put a sign outside '25KG of spuds £4'. They offer value whereas I think 'farm shops' cater for those with lots of money who get some kind of kick out of buying from a supposed farm, rather than a supermarket.

It's one of your more commendable traits but should you feel tempted there is a way I did watch the penalty shootout on my phone Had to lie about having the TV license. These things come back and haunt you later don't they.

It's largely a fad for those with money to burn but some of them do offer a way of buying meat (as an example) that are supposedly less subject to mass food production techniques and that will inevitably mean production costs are higher.

if posh (port out starboard home) birds like my dorter love to pay for the experience of wandering round a spacious warehouse shop with no hassle, no canned muzak and no tannoy announcements that, in supermarkets, are intended for the hoi polloi, then good for them. It helps to subsidise loss making "craft farmers".

Local produce does not just mean farm shops.
Something I have noticed since moving up here (I don't know if it is a recent thing everywhere or a Yorkshire thing) the quantity of local produce, clearly signed as such (not plastic wrapped and marked but in crates) Open Savoys, Leeks, unwashed potatoes, and Free Range eggs in trays with a stack of boxes alongside to select yourself and many others. On the deli section in my local supermarket the number of Yorkshire cheeses displayed is noticeable. (Morrisons)
it seems the same in the one or two smallrer shops I go to.

Finally managed to find some Blue Wensleydale here in Huntingdon, but had to go to St Ives for it!
