I thought I'd sanded out some vinyl graphics, but they were spotted by the boatyard staff, I was advised to wait till I want to sell the boat and get it done properly! In the meantime, I am just using Sandtex paints from Bandq.
Unfortunately, the nearer I get to a decent standard, the more I stress about a few scratches..... try going though the ten Bingley locks with a novice boater if you want the full crash-bang experience! My gunnels have ended up painted arse about tit, with original gloss topcoat, blue, then black, now covered with grey undercoat, now needing another sanding to smooth off. I am going to have to buy another tin of undercoat, then a satin grey topcoat, hope that will work. I fear the undercoat is rather soft, maybe it will take a week or so to cure.

That's a big reason for not paying £10,000 ... coming through a bridge hole with vegetation growing out of the offside, I picked up a full length surface scratch and I've not even finished painting yet!
I can avoid most obstacles, but in a bridge hole you can't get out of the way.

It takes a lot to impress me, but on this occasion I have to admit to being impressed.

We've decided that the cabin sides are staying light green with the coach lines in cream ... the gunnels and roof are remaining dark green. We're not bothering with the dark green outside the coach lines ... Jane's told me we prefer it one colour Rog Eta Anyone applied vinyl graphics ? Instructions suggest fitting whilst the surface is wet or whilst dry ... which is the best option in your view please

Let me know how you get on, I'm putting vinyl names on my boat in the new year.

Also I would imagine cleanliness is a good thing, brake cleaner has more than one use. Or acetone.

Instructions suggest wiping surfaces with methylated spirits prior to dampening (or not).

Meths would work. Don't use white spirit, it leaves a residue. Also tastes much worse.

White spirit is fine with a couple of tablespoons of lime cordial.
Lovely in fact.

White spirit is fine with a couple of tablespoons of lime cordial. Lovely in fact. Though it does affect your eyesight after a while.
