She used to comprehensively have TD's pants down on CWDF and boy did it boil his piss.

I See they are ripping the piss out of you again over the ‘other side’ …..Your comical value certainly knows no bounds old boy!👍 Correction to last post : - If you, and that other cunt Dogless, weren't almost just as thick as the two idiots who have been, and still are, providing me with more and more instances of undeniable and repeated internet libel, . . you might have been able to figure out who is in effect 'funding' the claim quite some time ago. There is no need for that sort of language, even on an unmoderated forum. If you can’t express yourself without resorting to the murkiest depths of the gutter it would be best if you kept quiet. Why are you surprised that Socks was loath to take your advice when you come across as a stubborn, disagreeable, angry, foul-mouthed highly opinionated old man? You may have been a good mechanic in your time but your demeanour and potty mouth must have lost you so much business.

He does have quite a bit of knowledge of eg the tidal Trent, which I’ve found useful in the past. That is mostly time-invariant. He probably has some knowledge of diesel engines and boat mechanics in general, but I’ve no doubt it is based on experience from ~50 years ago and thus has minimal relevance to the current decade. It’s a shame he never kept his knowledge and skills up to date but unfortunately this is a very common feature of that generation - an inability to move and adapt with the times. No doubt he feels that his knowledge is THE right knowledge and anything coming afterwards is some sort of an abomination. Such a common failing, unfortunately, not just a TD one but one prevalent in almost everyone lacking theoretical knowledge, and whose knowledge is only based on practical experience learnt on the job. At some relatively early point, they stop being able to learn anything new and yet remain absolutely convinced they know it all.

I have witnessed many times an inability of current "engineers" (in the modern useage sense not those in the institutes) to deal with pre-war or just post war engineering. A particular one I have come across a few times has been has been the unwillingness of younger people to take on such glories of early engineering like "Ward Leonard systems" (to a certain extent I sympathise, I remember the joys of working on these damn things) Recently did a job for someone whose ballast pump was unsuccesfully wired by a so called "marine electrician" It was a very costly error ..... a total rewind was needed. He had seen a 4 core cable (one green and yellow) and assumed three phase ...... whoops !!! The starter had not arrived with it and was to follow so he just used a conventional DOL 3 phase starter from a local wholesaler for quickness. (It's like the surprise on someones face when they are faced with a true 2 phase machine for the first time and can't work out what the hell it is)
A lot of early systems are complex to compensate for the lack of later inventions and an awful lot are not covered by present day training courses. Unless these younger people have worked with the older generation workers they are totally unaware of how some of these things work or even exist

I think that is why 'old style apprenticeships' proved so valuable It is a shame that this is not more widely encouraged. We still need the old skills and we still need that knowledge.

A man of low intelligence and little wit will always have to resort to abuse and profanity. It's sad, but says more about Dunkley than anyone else. Merry Christmas folks Rog

I think you are saying more or less the same as I am, but the other way round. I was saying that pleased-with-themselves engineers of the older generation may get stuck in a certain time period and not move on, so their experience becomes redundant. And of course we are talking about working practices as well as knowledge of the equipment. You are saying that recently trained people aren’t familiar with very old equipment and working practices and I’m sure that’s correct. In the Dunkley case we are talking about modern narrowboats with (fairly) modern engines.

Merry Christmas folks Rog Just come across a new word, describing the aggressive waving of arms, jumping up and down, while talking Bollocks. To Testiculate. Seems to fit nicely.

Thanks for posting that, . . along with the subsequent remark in the reply to JohnV. We both know it's nothing but mischievous speculation, . . but it's going to be a very useful example of how the sort of internet defamation that the likes of Mr Shit-for-Brains and Kris have been amusing themselves with can lead to questions over someone's professional reputation, . . if taken at face value by those who would probably qualify to be regarded by the Courts as "right thinking".

Merry Christmas folks Rog A man of low intelligence and little wit invariably marks himself out as an easy repeat target by his reaction to a bit of good natured ribbing. At least, that's what you w ere saying not so long ago when I objected to being publicly branded as liar, a thief, and professionally incompetent. Double standards and hypocrisy are never acceptable nor can be excused, . . even if indulged in as part of your " Thunderboat fantasy", . . by a complete cunt such as you !

Talking of "Wayne", wouldn't the genuine one have some comeback for the way his reputation has been questioned and blackened on a widely read public boating forum?
