I was just watching something about how the Australian government are intending to proceed with Omicron in Oz It looks like the softly softly technique and only going to use increased measures if absolutely forced to. They seem to be working on the principle that if you have a good vaccination program with boosters for the vulnerable then the risk level for the public is much more palatable than it was for Delta and herd immunity might be achievable without a large loss of life. They seem to be basing it on a fairly well thought out basis trouble is with all the alternatives, you will only know you were right or wrong .......... afterwards Not in the hermit state of Western Australia - the WA premier has just mandated booster shots www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/watch-live-premier-mark-mcgowan-to-give-a-covid-19-update-20211222-p59jme.html

Went to Wrexham today & it was realllllly quiet. It's actually quite a good shopping centre with decent shops & an old fashioned market.Lots of old alleys to wander around & have a mooch.I'm now wondering if Mr D will 'close the borders' again & stop us going into Wales.

Did you go to Wrexham or Wrecsam?
Love the differentiation on the buses ... and the extended, welsh option menu at the Wetherspoons there!
Christmas wishes to you, P and B x

Israel facing another booster vaccination.. or so I heard this am.. that'll be their 4th jab. I've lateral flowed and so far not brought that lurgy back from Brum. All gone mad. A fourth jab. Would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. It is tragic. Virtually nobody has died of Omicron or been hospitalised because of it beyond what would be expected of normal Winter figures for normal Winter illnesses but yet again we are being subjected to massive State interference in our civil liberties. God alone knows what it must be like to operate a pub or restaurant right now. I don't think it can last much longer, too many people have seen through it now.

Exactly how is this Massive State Interference affecting you so tragically? As far as I’m concerned, having to wear a mask in shops isn’t Mahousive Fascist State Thought Control (or whatever). The thing is that when omicron first came out, it was quickly known that it was much more transmissible. It wasn’t and still isn’t really known how severe an illness it causes. Early signs fortunately look like it isn’t too bad, in which case hopefully no further action will be required, but bearing in mind it’s roughly 14 days from infection to hospitalisation, and a further 14 days from hospitalisation to death, we won’t really know how severe it is for another 2 or 3 weeks. In the mean time we could either do absolutely nothing and wait for a potential catastrophe with 28 days of backlog deaths /stroke of luck no deaths, or we could completely lock down as a precaution against the possibility. Or we could take a middle path and have some restrictions and advice. Middle path always the best. Hopefully in another couple of weeks we will have a better idea of the severity and can relax a bit. Yes I agree that publicans/hospitality are taking the brunt of it, but if you were in charge you would have to decide how many deaths justified how many barmaids’ jobs… I think your fundamental issue is that you think that coronavirus only takes the old and weak. This is incorrect.

I think your fundamental issue is that you think that coronavirus only takes the old and weak. This is incorrect. Do we actually know this? All through there have been young people with "no existing health conditions" but for example is being a heavy smoker a health condition? Probably not. Plenty of teenagers smoke. It wrecks your lungs. It's entirely possible that covid19 IS knocking out people who have a fundamental health weakness such as this. Without it being examined properly the true figures would never come out. or even something like living in a polluted area. This would make people more susceptible but probably not come up as a "health condition".

It is as far as I'm concerned, firstly because they don't actually do anything, they are like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain link fence, and secondly because they are a symbol of subservience. That's why I don't wear one in shops. If a shop insisted on me wearing one I would just take my money to a shop that didn't, there are plenty of them.

All of us do things that impact our health, from not exercising enough, eating too much and the wrong stuff, drinking too much alcohol, and some stupid people even deliberately put smoke into their lungs. But I think if you look at an average “picture of health” with its warts and all, these people, on some kind of lottery, occasionally fall victim to covid and die or at least get seriously ill and suffer “long covid”, which can be life changing. Despite his bluster mr Stabby is quite a nice bloke and I fear for his covid recklessness. He has a sedentary lifestyle, is a bit overweight, late middle age and so probably is at an average or greater risk of severe consequence from covid. And yet he thinks it can’t possibly get him.

The mask thing is psychologically damaging to humans. It's serious. It may not be obvious to everyone but this will cause changes in the way people view others and communicate with them.
It's such a basic thing to be able to see someone else's face. You can't cover faces and not get problems.
If it goes on much longer bad shit is going to happen.

Sorry but I think it’s a bit Drama-Queen-ish to get excited over having to wear a face covering. In the great scheme of things it really is a first world problem. Not that the U.K. is a first world, of course. It is only a symbol of subservience to those who are already subservient to stuff they read on Facebook / the internet, written by attention-seeking nutters.
