I'm undecided where we're heading next year ... we had discussed the Leeds & Liverpool, but the stoppages look quite long term.
It's a manky day, and to help raise my spirits and encourage a ray of optimism, I wondered what your plans/ thoughts/ considerations are for 2022 ?

As much going out on the floating electric beer drinking platform as possible. For next year it will have a 350w solar panel on it and 1 kWh of lithium batteries. Might even shoe horn a little coolbox in it.
Up and down nice parts of the Thames.
That's adventurous enough for me ta.
The improved solar should make it completely self sufficient and able to go all day no problem during the pleasant months.

Anticipating a month on the Thames, taking another month to get there and back by canals. We like the Thames. If not the Thames, then the L&L would be the last place we'd consider, with the stoppages more regular than a busy bus route.

Put Shapfell in the water and travel up the River Hull and the first navigable bit of the Driffield Canal (permanently lowered bridge blocks further and it doesn't look as if there is sufficient interest to raise the very large amount of money needed for the instalation of a lift bridge) It's a shame because the society has restored all the locks right into Driffield and this is the only remaining blockage. Sabina is already nearly as far up as practical to travel, shortly upstream from me is a bridge with a restricted headroom ...... when there is enough water there is too little airdraft and when there is enough airdraft there is too little water..... additionally there is not enough width for me to turn round (can only j u s t squeeze round here ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) )

The L&L is magnificent in my view and well worth the effort and risk when it's open ... but it isn't.

Nice to read folks boaty trip plans Hope you all get to go. I have lots of plans wafting but only one thing booked.. trip aboard one of the Hebridean fleet with an old friend.... he cannot manage on his own so I'm going as carer. It'll no doubt be hard work but he's been very good to me in the past so I can do this. One of my other friends once said that he hoped when he reached his late 80's someone would help him have trips away on a boat. I do find myself wondering that, if I reach his age will one of my kids ensure I get to go away?

I think 2022 will hopefully be my last year on the lowland canals. Spend the year bimbling round it all, though with Scottish Canals record I'm maybe being a bit hopeful.

Rog And we have done it from Wigan to Leeds (and all the way to Goole), and all the way back to Wigan with a five and half week stop in Gargrave. Anyone can always walk it, along the towpath, too. Just spotted this, not seen it before - our boat in Sowerby Bridge: www.insowerbybridge.co.uk/explore/thewharf ![](https://www.datocms-assets.com/6109/1563196225-crw5726.jpg)

Doesn't have to be boaty plans ... any plans will be of interest.
I must confess I fancy booking a week on a hotel boat on the Caledonian canal ... but it'll probably be another year.

Middle levels late Spring/early summer for us. Then across to Oxford to play on the Thames. Sprinkled with a few visits home to take car/bikes out for a blast.. I have a need for speed...
