He's probably got a ramp which attaches to that rack- it appears to have a hole at the end to affix such a ramp- but yes, I would imagine it's still a tricky operation. There must be a point at which a fine sense of balance becomes critical. Quite a bit of potential for damage too from other boats, canal infrastructure etc I'd have thought. The Clockwork Banana may not be fast but it fits entirely within the profile of the boat and can easily be lifted on and off using no more than the boat plank.

As you say the exposed position of these things isn't the best. The Express is a great boat-bike for sure. Before I bought the C90 I was very tempted by this, which, apart from it's non-folding design, would IMHO be also excellent as a boat accessory. Just the job for short trips to the supermarket and could easily haul a lot of shopping or even the odd bag of coal. Basically the same as an Express but with an electric motor. radpowerbikes.eu/products/radrunner-electric-utility-bike?variant=39405385842781&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0KK12fGu-AIVB-3tCh1_Pw7nEAQYASABEgJvOPD_BwE

Yes, that's a nice little thing, I like the fact that the Express is a classic bike now and it gets a lot of interest, but I do need a driving licence to ride it and if I ever lost that for any reason I'd think about one of those.

Years ago there was a geyser travelling around the cut with a nice tug style boat and a large BMW motorbike on the deck. He also had a goat.

Trike on a tug deck, Castleford Cut. Will ask how he gets on and off if I see him.

There were at least three handsome Harley's but the bike that caught my eye was called a Spitfire ... had a single seat which somehow seemed to be between the wheels in an odd sort of way.
I guess some of you 'bike geeks' can tell me all about them ?
