So the heatwave with all it's red alerts and panicked warnings has passed.
The temperature was uncommonly hot for three days ... way hotter than usual.
However three days!
I seem to recall the 1976 heatwave went on day after roasting, sticky day for weeks ... effectively most of summer,
standpipes in the streets and all.
The dire warnings seem slightly ridiculous now don't you think ?

Certainly n 1976 there were large wild fires in Derbyshire, and Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire ... these three days were record breaking without question ... I just found the media hyperbole embarrassing.

Rog gotta hype it all up cos thats what they do folk expect drama.. just look at how films have progressed.. its all exaggerated now, has to be to draw them in. gone are the days of peace and rational reporting

I think it's the internet effect - everything is more instantly available and accessible. Back then it was the 9 o'clock news and that was (almost) your lot. If you have the BBC news app on the damn phone the thing never stops beeping until you get rid of it.

Borrow one of @hitler 's if you can't find one. What has the famous furry flouncer changed his name to now? Cba to look!

She told me how just last night she was telling her new boyfriend Leroy how much she loves the BBC.

Akshally I found an app which restricts all internet activity except for the one or two apps that I akshally use.

This pic of the Thames in '76 cropped up on the BBC news site. The converted lifeboat in the foreground looks cool. If only we had a Thames expert who could identify the location... ![](https://i.ibb.co/2NnjcM4/thames1976.jpg)
