Always fancied a Canadian-style canoe. A piece of cake to attach an outboard to one side; weight distribution could be an issue though. I had a daydream of cutting a hole in the middle and fitting two watertight bulkheads. They seem to be a tad pricey though.
If you had some sort of pod which could be fixed to the underside of the hull that might be better.

Yes I am six foot 2.514 inches tall and the closest I came to drowning was in a tight cockpit kayak with a dodgy spraydeck. Definitely agree re the large and accommodating entry to these craft. Very satisfactory. Years ago I was unexpectedly rolled in a kayak by a hidden shopping trolley. Quite nasty. Did you recover the trolley?

What you really need for swans is a swan upping hook or a cordless chainsaw.
Throwing mud at them is apparently good too.

I just worked out that the username is boat condition and length not a reference to some old fashioned ladies and gentlemen activity.

Allen's of Oldbury put out some very nice narrow boats. I had a 40ft early Allen's boat originally wooden top I got a small back cabin in steel put on and made a planked tug deck. Lovely boat that was.
If I did go back to the narrow boats an Allen's would be at the top of the list.
My 55 footer was made by Tony Gregory who was nearby. I had 12 years confinement on that boat mostly cruising.

I gave up the ditch boating a while ago. Apart from the elf not really being up to it I did find it rather tedious. Have you ever tried sitting back in a comfortable electric canoe on a pleasant river with cold beer close by in a compressor driven coolbox? Not a great deal of trying to go uphill or downhill in fact not a great deal of trying to do anything at all but it is hellishly relaxing. I suppose everyone is different but if this is the only boating I do from now on in fine weather I will be content. Poor weather means stay inside and light the wood stove, while we are still legally allowed to use combustibles on this irritating planet. Tory PM candidates are just playing to the gallery of 160k blue rinse tories, not a mention or care about addressing climate change. 'Climate Change' - how easily you are fooled! Meanwhile, The Labour Party wants to cover the planet with face masks Made in China. The rot set in during the 90s when scientific researchers couldn’t get funding unless it was linked to climate change. So proving global warming became the new alchemy and climate change denial a sign of madness.

"The Royal National Lifeboat Institution came under fire yesterday for spending millions of pounds on projects in foreign countries –including buying burkinis for Muslim women in Africa – while slashing more than 100 jobs in the UK. Donations are being spent on swimsuits for devout Muslim women in Tanzania and on funding creches in Bangladesh which the RNLI claims helps to prevent drownings overseas. But the charity's £189,000-a-year chief executive Mark Dowie warned last week that it is 'facing some major challenges' after making a loss of £6.3 million last year, and announcing 135 job cuts." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7464961/How-3-3million-donations-RNLI-spent-abroad.html "Another British institution now gone to hell and riddled with PC disease." "Many Charities have diversified and the overlap in some areas is horrific and dysfunctional. Any Charity that oversteps its mission statement should either have the misspend removed from their government grant or its status terminated. There are far too many of these organisations bogging themselves down with extended management through off shoot projects that do fuck all but employ a privileged few. What next the British legion donating artificial limbs to Taliban veterans?"

I also had an 8ft plywood hydroplane which I put a 20hp outboard on but scared myself silly once it got going as it was FAST. I was sure it was going to flip so left it and used dinghies instead.

I'd beg to differ, the planet is Irritated by our profligate mistreatment of it, admittedly much happened before we realised, but we have known for a few decades and many seem to carry on blindly carrying on. Tory PM candidates are just playing to the gallery of 160k blue rinse tories, not a mention or care about addressing climate change. more interested in power than addressing the main long term issue for our future, leapfrogging each other with far right crazy ideas to glean a majority. peterboat , as one of the few who do realise, pass on the message to your fellow tories, it's crucial. There, a good climate rant to set me up for the day. No doubt naughtyfox will be along shortly to deny it. Strange how he also denies covid, there is something lacking intellectualy there obviously. Jim nobody listens Tories, lib dems or labour, its getting to the point that I will vote greens in as I seriously think its the only chance we humans have of not destroying all living things

Both Mrs Rusty and the swan found it considerably more amusing than I did. Swan 1 Mr Rusty 0 Many years ago i was a serious canoeist first white water racing then sprint, whilst at a big sprint event I had been feeding a big swan with army sandwiches for a couple of days at least, as soon as he saw me he used to fly down for a bit of food and a stroke. Anyway I got to the finales and was on the start line when said swan came and joined us seconds before the race began, for those that dont know sprint boats unless you skull for support turn over quickly as they are very narrow and have a v bottom. well in seconds more people were upside down than upright and I made a great start only 2 of us finished and I was the male joint service sprint champion that year as the starter ruled it a good start ............oopps

Saving the planet... how many face masks have you put in the bin, Jim?
What are you going to do about continental drift and the magnetic reversal of the poles?
Your electric bike is going to end up in landfill. Or the canal.

Saving the planet... 1. how many face masks have you put in the bin, Jim? 2. What are you going to do about continental drift and the magnetic reversal of the poles? 3. Your electric bike is going to end up in landfill. Or the canal. Oh Fox of little brane. Do they do remedial catch up classes for adult learners in english in Finland? You need to sign up. Especially science. so, I'll answer your idiotic questions anyway, it may sink in... 1. - they have all gone in the bin, as they should, when I have used a one shot mask. However, caring about the planet, I use a cloth one and wash it, dry it on the wind powered drying machine. 2. They aren't especially a problem at the moment, not much human intervention could do anyway. I don't live near a subduction zone. Have you forgotted all your geology? Bless! 3. It takes a looong time for a working bike to end up in landfill, It will be repaired and rejuvenated for years. Being a kit motor, if that dies I'll just replace it. Being metal it wouldn't go in landfill anyway, it would be melted down and recycled. Meanwhile I'm not burning fossil fuels, charge it at home from the solar. Canal??? Like as not if that happened I'd be in there with it, so would fish it out. The trouble with burying your head in the sand (or snow) is that it leaves your arse in the air for a good kicking. Now, now, lads and lasses, form an orderly queue... no pushing in....
