I wouldn’t mind being on the Shannon Erne waterway.

No.
I find the principle of the canopy being wider than the boat a little wrong if doing locks. Seems like it would keep getting caught on things.
Its them thats done the trip though and not me so fair play !
One wonders how they got on with the silly vertical axis wind turbine.
I think our JohnV bought one of these but discovered it was junk.
About 20 yars ago I engaged in a short discussion around small wind turbines on boats with a gentleman who had a narrow boat. He was of the view that "They ain't worth a wank mate" which did sound good from someone with a proper cockney accent. The conversation sort of died down after this stage as I absorbed the wonders of such advanced technical knowledge.
He was actually correct as it happens.

A friend on a farm mooring with a large plot of land has fitted a wind turbine at the top of his plot (out of hearing range).
I asked him about it and his response was almost identical ... it's only saving grace he said, was that unlike solar you can pick up bits 24hours a day. He said he most certainly wouldn't bother if cruising.

The vertical axis wind turbines you see for sale are as a says pure junk.
There are some other vertical types (nearly all experimental and home made/prototype hopefuls) that supposedly have better performance
How much better and if the extra efficiency makes the higher cost worth it ..... who knows.
One of the problems that cruising has is that you normally don't chose to moor where there is a howling gale most of the time

They ain't worth a wank mate That is, by any metric, of exceedingly low value. I suspect that, given the jolly colours it was finished in, that it was more about making a statement than anything else. Which is odd because the crew are both too old to be millennials.
