The old railway at Long Itchington has had a 'make-over' and is now a beautifully smooth wide tarmac path (great for walking as well as cycling in all weather).
Terrific views and full of bird song as it gently climbs to the old viaduct, which is the junction with the line running to Leamington and the old line running to Rugby.
The Rugby line is currently undergoing the same treatment.
Great amenity whether a cyclist or walker.
I've a few photos, once I get to somewhere with a reasonable signal.
We love walking the old railways ... good to get away from traffic and its noise but very easy underfoot ... maybe long term Dr Beeching did us a favour.

Down here we have the Tarka Trail, tarkatrail.org.uk/the-tarka-trail/Starts in Barnstaple and is a mixed cycling walking route around Nth Devon. Much of it is the old railway line from Braunton down towards Oakhampton walking alongside the estuary for the first few miles then off up the line of the River Torridge. There is even a bit of the Rolle canal to walk by. All in all an excellent place I really must get out and walk moreπ€

That's the junction ... straight on towards Leamington , double back right to Rugby. When it's completely done it'll be fantastic. The viaduct and this junction was a pleasant hours walk from the canal at Long Itchington. Rog

Chuffing great photos!
I enjoyed cruising from Napton junction to bottom of Hatton a few years ago, nice stretch with plenty to see, wish i had gone back before selling up.
Maybe i could 'borrow' your boat over winter Rog.

Is the odd looking boat still at the bottom of the locks, not sure how to describe it really, the one that you wouldn't like to meet on a blind bend?

I know the one you mean twerp2 (Asleep) ... we used to call it the 'God damned Blucher' from the 'Shout at the Devil' film/book. No it's an historic wooden narrow boat on the mooring now ... MV6 Severn and Canal Co. boat. Don't know where the huge boat went from there. Rog

We saw it above Hillmorton locks several years ago.
He must have had to reverse a hell of a way to turn.
Don't know how wide it was ... must have been 8ft.
I understand it was built as one of a pair of hydrofoils (is that what they're called) for a sea going catamaran.
