We're having a Man of Steel statue erected over looking the M1 and Meadowhall, at Sheffield.
The Kelpies do look fantastic.

River Sarthe North West France near Mayenne. Taken - September 2012 (how time flies!!) The levels had been deliberately lowered to facilitate infrastructure maintenance exposing the lock and adjacent weir. The green machinery between the lock and the weir is an Archimedes screw type electricity generator. Nearly all the locks along this section had one. Obviously when in this state the river is unnavigable.

Guillotine gates - New Junction Canal, Don Aqueduct. The gates, one at each end of the aqueduct are lowered to prevent the River Don (when it is in flood) flooding into the Canal and then flooding land adjacent to the canal. Ugly but seemingly effective.

Barnby Dun Lift bridge. Self operated by leisure boaters but operated by a bridge keeper for the big commercials back then.
