This boat (looked 12'6" beam) was moored at Leamington. Another similar sized boat at Radford Semele. I'm aware that the canal bridges at Warwickshire Fly boats and the Blue Lias pub are pinch points for such sized boats. I assume they can travel by Catherine de Barnes into Birmingham but I thought once in Brum the locks are all narrow ? Is there a route I'm forgetting ? A theoretical question ... would you think the range of travel of such a boat would be sufficient to keep C&RT happy, if it was a continuous cruiser ? Rog ETA just an idle thought whilst waiting for a train not anti anyone π

Anyway, from WFB/BL to Birmingham (camp hill top lock) is quite a long way, I would have thought it would satisfy the board. Just looked on canalplan, itβs 31 miles from BL. And a lot of locks! I seem to recall at one stage CRT were saying a range of 20 miles was adequate for satisfying the board.

They had to remove coping stones to get the last 12'6" boat through Warwick Fly bridge (built at Delta), and then crane it out before Blue Lias bridge as I recall.
As you say it leaves plenty to cruise even if stopped at each end.

What's on the roof and towpath though, are the mushrooms shiny? That makes a big difference to enforcement.

The pram hood seems a bit vulnerable when passing another of the same ilk specially with the reported lax vegetation management. A naughty hard branch could have it off quite quickly and being a heavy boat it would be hard to stop in time.
I must say that I am very judgemental towards this sort of craft. I do think they are incredibly nasty and horrid etc.

It's a beautiful new looking boat, if not my choice, as is the other one at Radford. It was quaysider breasted the other day that reminded me of the pinch points. Rog

Good for scale and perspective Rog 12' 6" is just too wide for that area. It's in fact ignorant and bloody stupid. We go as far as Warwick with a 10' and I feel slightly guilty of hogging the canal, but we tend not to moor near pinch points. Blue lias bridge is a bit of a squeeze even for us, especially since they plastered the underside of the arch.

It looks a bit narrower more like 11'6 to me but agree with jd that 10ft is the widest one should really use up there.
There was a company doing reasonably large "replica dutch barges" (Delta marine?) somewhere around there who used to send their boats via the canal but not sure if they still do it.
