plutoDo you have any details for Ironclad? Apparently it went to Brentford from east London by canal (my cruising area including the locks from norwood top down to Brentford) and I was told by seller Ironclad was measured as 14ft5.

<giggles>
Hmm. I might have to go on cwdf and ask max beam for hanwell.
If Ironclad actually is 14ft5 then it becomes more interesting to me.
I can deal with adversity, carrying a proper tirfor etc but if the boat won't go through Hanwell then I will be forced to fit the 5 cylinder Gardner a friend just told me about and a half tunnel over the prop and go up the tideway to get to the non tidal Thames. Rather than through horrible suburban shitholes around Southall. That would be terrible to have to do that .

It's better to laugh than you find out you've invested in a beautiful boat that's no good for you.
I really hope that a real enthousiast of beautiful old boats will become the new owner, and not someone that's only looking for the space, and destroys a gorgeous hull by transforming it without any interest in the history into a horrible looking houseboat.
Peter.

That's exactly how I feel about it Peter, lake needs someone interested in old boats to take it on and care for it . Unfortunately it's not going to be me.

For the time being I think that you've still plenty to do on your own Metlock, that will still keep you busy for a while.
I'm sure that you know as well as I know that the work on an old boat is never completely finished, there will always be something left to be done.
We both (and many others with us) have the right to continue dreaming about LAKE without ever owning that boat.
Peter.

If I bought Lake it would not be for the space or houseboat use. It would be for the boat someone has already spoiled it by adding the steel cabin - however I will not removing it.

I also only insure my boats 3rd party so there will not be any unnecessary steelwork done on it.

I'm quite happy really with my boat, I'm lucky to own it. If it had been in good condition I wouldn't have been able to afford it, but it came along just at the right time for me and the boat. It's a long term project, so my enthusiasm comes and goes. But I wouldn't be without it really. The good thing about buying a boat in such poor condition is anything you do is an improvement. It also sorts out which boaters are worth talking to and which aren't. The ones who put there noses in the air as they pass aren't worth talking to, as they don't understand owning a project boat. It's not always to do with how shiny their boat is either. I've seen lots of boats that I've dreamed about owning without it ever being a reality so lake will just have to be put on that list.

Kris has told me by PM some more information including the fact that if I buy it he will never talk to me again. I think its therefore worth buying it

Going up there tomorrow morning with my senior marine consultant advisor (old git who I have know since 1991 who has lived on boats since the 60s) - always good to have a knowledgeable / scruffy old biker with you to look like a serious buyer

No. I'd like feedback from Pluto about the official beam of Ironclad as I was told that got to Brentford by canal and that it was 14ft5. Anyway I'm not going with money - just to have a look at the boat and make sure it is something I can allow someone else to buy I had planned a run up the Thames in my yot but being Sunday there will be too many plebs out in their horrible Β£300k pile'o'shites - i'd rather a road trip really. And it looks like a boat worth looking at.
