Yes I think BETELGEUSE is probably scrap. Tug came up from Chatham to tow the dumb barge to the Medway but when tug skipper saw the boat he said it's a wreck unsafe for towage so its still on the cut. I'd quite like it as a houseboat with a decent cabin added but a hell of a project. Owner is adamant it is a MSC barge delivered by sea but at the end of the day why would anyone tow a barge down from Manchester to London ? Its basically an old Regents canal barge.

Does seem to be. Of course being in London they might get a buyer but it is a big boat to move around and its dumb. And its not particularly pretty so not really an enthusiasts boat. I quite like it but its definitely no L&L boat if you know what I mean.
With crt enforcement appearing to gradually get more and more serious it would be a headache for anyone without a mooring.
Having said that one or two regents canal barges have recently been converted nicely into luxury houseboats - they do make a good base for conversion for use on a residential mooring and the lack of engine means no VAT payable which is a bonus.

That old Lister doesn't look to have had much love, I wonder what state the cooling fins are in (my guess is blocked to buggery with shite!) near 50 year old wooden boat with indeterminate hull condition without out of water survey - £37.5K seems optimistic!

More about the lifestyle than the boat though.

My mooring is 72 x 13ft8 as it happens so it would fill it completely. Currently occupied by a 57x12 barge so underused really.

I don't think it would need much doing if used as a static houseboat. Its the internal space which is interesting.

I was so disappointed as I quite like shanty towns. It is a bit rough to be fair. Relisted at £18k now.
