Funnily enough when I bought my Chelmer navigation hull there was a concrete lighter laying alongside - stupidly I bought the steel hull..............................
At the time the wreck of the sailing barge "Maid of Connought" was at Pin Mill, later the concrete lighter was moored alongside the Maid and some wag painted "Made of Concrete" on the lighter!

Possible rebuilt back end ?? I still think its a different vessel. I suppose if it had a major collision the bows may have been rebuilt as well but it all seems a bit far fetched and too different from the original rather beautiful vessel. Well I've been thinking about this [as I've got so many more important things to do!] and I agree, the two photos appear to be VERY different boats. Many years ago my parents bought an old Rectory - no we weren't posh, it was when old rambling ruins were cheap. First impressions were of a Georgian mini mansion with some Victorian wings - very cool for a teenager. Anyway, further inspection showed an Elizabethen/Tudor longhouse under the plaster and the brick skin. My point here is that Helig was a very conservative design, positively Edwardian in fact and in the post war years would have been very unfashionabe. She would, however, still be sound of hull and machinery and probably worthwhile to re-model to 50's or 60's style - possibly including stem and stern - frustrating no history seems to be available though.

That's an interesting point.
Or it could be another Llys Helig perhaps someone liked the original boat and commissioned a "copy". I wonder if the original thorneycroft vessel was on twin shafts or was that another modification.
The boat in Burnham seemed to me too "tinny" but I suppose if what you suggest is right and it was modernised then it could have ended up a slightly odd boat afterwards.

Now this is nice
But my fear is the hull is probably as bad as my lighter - plus she's a long way from Ipswich.....................

It does look nice for your situation. I wonder what the engine is which they have spent £5k on. My phone won't load all the photos .
Is it really worth £20k? It has the look of something which would be rather difficult to give away unless there happened to be someone locally who fancied it.

At least posting the boats you are interested in on here gives you time to consider and take on board other opinions and advice. Good luck.
