Those scanias are apparently 7.8 litre. Inline 6. Beasts !! MANY years ago cousins of mine that had a road transporting business in the Netherland had a Scania with one of these D8 engines in their fleet. It was a non-turbo version that did 1.400.000km without any overhauling when the truck had an accident and was a write-off, if not it would have gone on and on. Peter.

Its the style of boat I could deal with retiring on, on the Thames. I also like the Dutch kotters a lot. There's one thing I don't understand (among many others), in a very recent posting you made you wrote that you retired at the age of 18, and now you say that you could deal with retiring on this style of boat. I know that I'm not very bright, but this is something I really don't understand. Peter. I will be taking a second retirement.

This is quite interesting. A French "silure" barge. Peter bargemast might know about these. Not a thing of beauty but it looks to be a very roomy boat to live on with sensible sized doors and other features making it rather comfortable. Where did this design originate? I don't think I've ever seen one in the UK. m.apolloduck.com/boat/barges-canal-barge/589913

Also stop getting Peter to do your research for you.

There is no requirement for the boats to be aesthetically pleasing. I would not want this sort of boat myself.

Your right it does say "unusual boats". I just thought you had better taste in boats but it just shows you never can tell. I quite dislike trawler type yatchs, which is funny as I really like trawlers. I can just about cope with a "Grand Banks" trawler yacht, but that kipper with the super structure on I can't help thinking its a crime to put something like that on such a beatiful hull.

I agree the cabin is a bit boxy on the Klipper but I still think its a reasonable boat if there are no bridge problems. There is something good about being able to get in and out of a boat easily. And I really like to see the surroundings. Its very important to me and one of the main reasons I enjoy living on boats.
I know what you mean its a barge hull so it looks a bit funny but its actually quite a well thought out boat when you look at it.
