That is a nice-looking launch. But the soap-dodger is right, you won't pick it up that easily. Also, the licence fee goes up a lot if you declare it to be powered, I think. But it will row nicely. ETA it wouldn't be at all difficult to add a rudder for a cox. No sniggering. Racist soap dodger if you don't mind old boy.

(I mean the first part, I'm fairly sure she knows about the rest by now).

What sort of power would I need to move this on a canal with two adults in?

A couple of 'ores ? It's designed for rowing. The sort you do with 'ores not the sort you do with the wife No but if you wanted to stick an electric unit on the back the simplest way would be to get a "Bison" trolling motor around 55lb thrust and a 12v car battery. That would do it. Cheap and cheerful. Minn Kota are better but also more expensive. About £300 overall to do the bison and the battery. If it were me I would look for a second hand slightly smaller minn Kota or Motorguide outboard but as always buying second hand is risky. I did recently have a go with a Bison trolling motor and while they are a little bit agricultural and do not possess much class they do actually get the job done. No idea about ongoing maintenance such as doing the brushes when fishing line breaches the lip seal. bodger is the man for that. Actually I think he has a Minn Kota "Turbo 36" (ignore the turbo it is meaningless just marketing) but also noted he had sneakily included a rather nice little 4hp Evinrude two smoke outboard on his solar electric boat

Does look like it would make a nice family cruiser. I like that generous front deck area very nice place to sit out. Needs a bit of needle gun treatment but it's definitely got potential to be a really nice boat.
