I've worked out the right way to operate with a 36 inch bowsaw is to put a lot of pressure on it (two hands in the right places) and just use the lower half of the blade rather than the whole length. Short and heavy strokes up and down. Then when the blade wears it if you hit a nail or something and take a tooth off just turn it round and use the other half..
Saves slipping at the end of the cut and extends the life of the blade.
My dream is to get hold of a 42 inch frame. I do have the blades.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine's, sadly, lacking at 24 inches.... G-Man are usually good www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324172824435Various sizes. Not a bargain at £6.50 but quality and probably cheaper than hardware stores. Worth looking in old school hardware stores and also asking as they may have stock which nobody ever buys.

Thanks. Always do the latter and have found some interesting, helpful people along the way. Not really into ebay etc - hard to pick up and/or return.. prefer to stay here, out of it...

I have had an EGO 18 inch blade chainsaw for 2 years, and I use it for about 2-4 hours every week It's one of the best pieces of kit I have ever bought, but it's not cheap. I have felled several dead elm trees up to 16 inch diameter (and I have sliced up felled trunks of 30 inches).
The 5 amp battery will do about 20 cuts through a 16 inch log. I use 2 batteries, and my arms give out before the second battery does.
