Just heard on the wireless, that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract which will see him paid €600,000 per week.
Apparently after stoppages he will be taking home €340,000 per week......presumably in a wheel barrow.
The people I am currently working with (Christmas temp) are still celebrating a pay rise to £7.20 an hour.
Did I accidentally step through a mirror somewhere?

Whilst i agree that those sorts of figures are ridiculous, don't play the man. Gareth Bale is supremely talented and one of the best Footballers in the world. The fact that he is getting paid more in a week than i will in my lifetime is not his fault. It is the fault of the Football authorities, satellite television groups, Rupert Murdoch, sponsors and at the bottom of the pile, us fans that go to games.
If i could negotiate a paypacket of that size, i would. I would not say, "nah its ok I'll stick to minimum wage thanks".

I don't blame Bale, he has to do the best for his family. It's 'the world' I was railing at, as it's run mad. Rog

It's the fault of advertisers. That's were all the money comes from. the clubs ought to charge even more and reduce the ticket prices but they won't do that. They wan't people to watch TV, Not attend the games. Just look at F1. Hamilton and Co pulling down 50 million a year!

£600.ooo PER WEEK! <faints>. Not £600,000 per week, that would be silly. €600,000 which isn't as much (a euro's about 86p I think). Now you can faint Rog

Bank security software expertise pays OK too. Daughter of friend has 6 month full time contract at £3,500/hour. She wishes she'd asked more as they snapped her hand off without discussion.

So do I. However, I also understand why he is being paid this amount of money. It's nothing to do with his "worth to society", and of course a nurse, say, has a moral claim to equivalence in earnings. However, given that football is a game which is supported, including financially supported by millions of people, logic dictates that people who are adept at playing it will be in great demand by a very limited number of employers who follow a very pure Supply and Demand business model.

Yes you've hit the nail on the head there.
