Why were they infamous?
'built by the infamous Hancock & Lake'

I have seen old Hancock and Lane adverts from yars ago where the elegantly rounded sterns, which were a lot nicer than Springers boats, were compared with ladies bottoms.
Unfortunately I don't have the magazine. It would be a nice one for framing.
Perhaps this is where the infamousness came from.
I seem to recall when on Nigel's boat that it was a H&L "Norseman" which is the one which is about 45ft long.
My first narrow was a 30ft Hancock and Lane Marlin so I have a soft spot for them not that it was anything special.
First two winters living on a little boat on the towpath is memorable though.

isn't this where the late great NM took BWB to the appeal court and won. I believe BWB tried to control the boats on the water but its outside of their jurisdiction and Nigel got a judgement in his favour.

He was owner of the land and BW had been charging for moorings on that section. It is outside of their jurisdiction because it is on the half tidal section of Brent creek. Complicated setup round there. Also a massive new housing scheme coming which will change the place forever in a lot of good and bad ways. Funny little mooring which floods at spring tides.
