It can be useful to discuss general safety matters on internet forums but if an ultracrepidarian turn up it rapidly becomes pointless. Hopefully this won't happen. Tillers swinging round and knocking people in is a rare but well known problem. It's an infinitely AVOIDABLE problem, . . you gibbering idiot ! Speaking as someone who first began being taught how to operate and handle working/commercial narrowboats as a 12-year old, . . then later went on to work pairs of narrowboats on the last long distance commercial narrowboat traffics in the 1960's, . . and commercial Leeds & Liverpool Shortboats on the Northwest's canals and river navigations, including the Bridgewater, the Leeds & Liverpool, the Weaver, the Mersey, the Ribble, and the Manchester Ship Canal, . . I'm probably one of the best qualified people still around when it comes to dishing out advice about how NOT to get knocked off the open sterns of tiller steered craft/motor boats running in astern gear.

I don't think David Schweizer is too impressed by your boat handling abilities.

He is a gentleman.

I've no idea who David Swizzler might be, . . . but going by the uncalled for snide comment he's put in that recently reproduced CWDF post, he sounds to me like a miserable confused old fart who would rather bad mouth someone for the sake of it than admit to any lessening of memory function over the last 55(+) years. On the whole, . . I think my preference would lean towards NOT being fondly remembered by an unpleasant bigoted old git.

Miserable confused old fart, eh? Unpleasant bigoted old git?
"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7: 3-5 King James version).

I met him at Braunston just before he reluctantly sold his boat Helvetia.
He was a very polite gentleman, not a blow hard or braggert.
Just saying.

He's a pleasant fellow. Loads of experience and knowledge.
I'm sure our Tony has experience and knowledge but has a hard time getting it across in a polite manner.
