Just seen a poster advertising Titanic the Musical.
I know it was a long time ago (1912) but is the death of over 1500 (no exact number known) an appropriate subject for song ?

Never liked musical theatre ... just not my thing.
But a song and dance about drowning seems slightly absurd.
Anybody seen it or planning to ?

It isn't about drowning though. More about hopes, dreams etc etc that failed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Not my cup of tea, had enough of that in real life.

You'd have too expect that icebergs and drowning are going to feature ... well over half the poor souls onboard perished. Still struggle to comprehend how it's a subject for a song and dance. Rog

You do get sad songs about tragedies.

Song and dance are just people expressing their feelings, much like the rest of theatre.

I realise that ... but for an evenings entertainment it seems a strange choice to me ... it's certainly not going to end happily.

Iβm also not a fan of musical theatre especially the making of successful films into musicals. It just seems like a cynical cashing in on the films popularity. I doubt there would be a titanic musical, if there hadnβt been the James Cameron movie. But I do quite like a tragic folk song sometimes.
