I suppose the moral is, don't crash into another glider.

It can't be that difficult. I do countless hours in the floating electric beer drinking platform and never hit other boats. They are all at the same altitude as me. It really must be incredible incompetence to hit another plane while flying. You are really looking at a massive lack of attention there and a possible entry for the Darwin awards. I realise people who go in gliders may think in some way they are incredibly clever but that is actually untrue. They are just using known technologies to do predictable things. Crashing into each other is massively infra dig and I hope on the gliding forums they get killed by jokes and ribbing.
The reason planes are so safe is because YOU ARE ALL FLYING AT A DIFFERENT HEIGHT.
There is a basic advantage here of having 2 dimensions to work with rather than 1.
It is really naff to crash a plane into another plane.

Power planes get scared when within 1/2 mile of another one and run away. When a glider sees another glider circling it runs towards it and joins it in the thermal. And another glider joins, and another glider joins… like moths around a lamp. So you can have 2 gliders banking steeply (50 degrees of bank) turning at the same height on opposite sides of the turn. And maybe gliders just below and above doing likewise. And with big wings. This is why MAC risk is higher and why glider pilots wear parachutes.

Power planes get sacred when within 1/2 mile of another one and run away. When a glider sees another glider circling it runs towards it and joins it in the thermal. And another glider joins, and another glider joins… like moths around a lamp. So you can have 2 aircraft banking steeply (50 degrees of bank) turning at the same height on opposite sides of the turn. It's true we often refer to "flying through the heavens" but I don't think many of us knew planes were truly blessed by God ........

In other news, 2 gliders collided near Market Harborough, one pilot ok, one dead. I’m just about to go out and rig my glider for the weekend… Not sure how close that gliding club is to Market Harborough but you often get a great view when moored on the Welford Arm - it is amazing (to a pleb and non glider) to see quite how many gather - and sometimes it makes you wonder how close they must be .....

The gliding club is at Husband’s Bosworth. I said Mkt H because in my haste I thought people might not know where HB is, but of course they do, there is a tunnel and a village…

I’m flattered that you like to expend so much effort trawling through my posts looking for typos! I just happened to log on at that very moment - and out it leapt! Having an (old) A level in English from a grammar school attended after passing an 11+ examination just makes one uncomfortable with such glaring mistakes from the properly educated .......

They may have been flying through cloud.

Thank you so he did. When I was flying we would be pretty close to each other. You do need to pay attention.

They may have been flying through cloud. Good Luck to them if this is the case. I still think that moving around with 2 dimensions and hitting each other is a bit naff. At times I can be on 5 dimensions at the same time and still not hit anyone. It is tempting though if there is anyone there. Is there anyone there?

To be fair cars manage it on motorways , and they're all obliged to go in the same direction. Rog

To be fair cars manage it on motorways , and they're all obliged to go in the same direction. Rog Far more people die in motorway accidents than air accidents. Its basically because with planes you can do vertical separation which is not possible with surface transport.

And there are a lot more cars than planes...?
