It’s another one of those things that people have been lead to. Doing the supermarkets work for them, whilst undermining peoples jobs. Supermarket jobs probably aren’t the best, but people need work. All these modern convienences will put lots of people out of work. Yebbut automated checkouts are good because if you put a four-pack of beer on the weighing scale and keep the barcode away from the scanner, you can pretend they are potatoes which are considerably cheaper.

We've come a long way from the destruction of machinery in cotton Mills just over two hundred years ago ... but our nature and basic instincts haven't changed at the same pace.
I'm sure we'll muddle through like we usually do.

I think theyve cottoned onto those tricks. When was the last time you did that?

All these modern convienences will put lots of people out of work. With the advent of AI it’s going to get worse, because it’s going to be the white collar professions that are going to be automated next. So my question is who is going to buy all these products that our military industrial complex keeps churning out, if no one’s got a job? Time for universal basic income me thinks. I do tend to use self checkouts simply because in this massive Tesco or whatever, only 2 tills are manned and people using them have a month’s worth of shopping to check through. I just go for the quickest option. Interesting that Lidl and Aldi tend not to have self checkouts, but they are constantly opening and closing tills switching the staff between shelf stacking and cashiering. As to AI, I think that for the time being it is hyped. AI is not intelligent in the normal sense of the word as applied to humans, but it is good at pattern recognition so for example it is good at picking up an anomaly in an x-ray, facial recognition etc. AI relies on being taught a very specific area and then applying that knowledge. AI is nowhere near sentient or as flexible as a human. It is not even as intelligent as your average Thunderboat member.

Having a cheery, and friendly personality, coupled with boyish good looks and charisma, I enjoy socialising with staff at banks, shops, pubs and cafe's and I am always well received and my visits appreciated. I can see why Telemachus chooses online banking poor love 😊 Rog But do you use the self checkouts at supermarkets? I refuse to use them. People need jobs.

I've been asking around friends as well as on here, and to date no one has a horror story to relate of missed payments or duplications.
Once back home in October I'll get it sorted, thanks.
Whatever, it can't be any worse than my present banks useless service.

I use auto checkouts because I believe technology has the power to liberate humans from the need to do menial jobs.
If machines take over enough jobs the system will have to adapt and provide a universal income. If this happens the place can improve. If you want to work to get more money then you can but people who want a simple life and have no need for flash gear and big houses should not be enslaved by capitalists.
Machines can save us.
To be fair some people probably actually like going to work as it provides structure. I wouldn't know.

As most illegal immigrants are motivated by finances, it could also slow down migration. If people had enough money to live a decent life in their own location.

The best brains have spent decades trying to get self driving cars working. Currently we are not really any closer other than something that can follow lane lines on a motorway (until the roadworks).

Have you not seen Tesla's Full Self Driving?
OK so as is obvious from the description it does not mean the car drives itself but it has been wonderful for the stock price and margins.
A bit scammy but never mind.
I think it was originally to be called Fool Self Driving.

I do internet banking from phone apps, fingerprint keeps it secure. Good time to shop around at the moment, just got a 5.5% 6 month fixed with Atom bank for some of our savings but that is locked in for 6 months. Been using Chase too, for normal stuff, their instant access savings isn't paying bad money either, with a bit of cash back on the current account. Check out Money Saving Expert for good deals.
