I sent a sightings request to CRT, it's taken almost a month, it arrived as a password protected.XLSX doc.
I couldn't open it on my Chromebook or phone, had to send to Noreens windoze laptop.
The solution is to request the doc unprotected, I checked this out with CRT and it's ok.

Did they mention the roof box as contravening a byelaw?

I heard of someone who asked the CRT for logs and they sent them a bag of firewood.

I was going to make a facetious comment about the roof box but I see I've been beaten to it.

I was just going to say there's no way C&RT would have missed any sightings on Jim with that roof box ... that and the Great Wall of China can be seen from space 😁 Rog ETA Never understood asking for sightings history ... don't you know where you've been ?

Maybe some signs of ageing. He doesn't know where he's going but sure thinks he knows where he's been.
Maybe nerves kicking in around the upgrades to the CRT enforcement in prepararion for the zombie apocalypse.

If you have never done this, you might be in for a surprise. Two examples:
1. Allegedly my boat was seen moored in a feeder to the canal, the feeder is no more than a ditch with a little flowing water in it.
2. One location was given as inside a marina the boat had never been into. I suspect the checking tablets use GPS to automatically fill in the location and it gets things wrong (the boat was actually on the towpath outside the marina).
In the event of a dispute, you may need to show CaRT/a court that their records are not accurate. This is particularly important on out and back routes because it seems CaRT do not record which direction the boat is pointing, so at, for example, Banbury, you could get spotted twice in places within a few yards of each other indicating that you have overstayed. In my view it is wise to build up a file on their spotting data inaccuracies.

That happened to me. I got an email from CRT telling me I had been recorded as overstaying and telling me to move. So I phoned them and asked where this had happened and they said "Tarleton". So I pointed out that between the two sightings, I had done the Ribble Link both ways and been the entire length of the Lancaster Canal including the Glasson branch, a distance I estimated of around 110 miles. And since the Ribble Link crossing has to be booked with CRT, they should know this. They were suitably apologetic and agreed with my suggestion that this strike be removed from my licensing record.

But you knew where you'd been so could correct their error ... which suggests there's no point in asking for their sightings tonybI once received an e mail regarding an alleged overstay at Gurnett Aqueduct on the Macc. They had indeed recorded me twice ... on the way up and on the way back with 14 days between. A phone call resolved the issue ... annoying but not arduous. I always keep a written log in which I also keep shop receipts etc. so proving my location is never a problem, however I still see no point in asking for C&RT sightings, as my records are much better. Unless of course if you wish to see if you 'got away with it'. Rog

In any case, if you have a home mooring the 14 day rule doesn’t apply to you. If you have a BSS, insurance and valid home mooring then CRT cannot refuse you a licence, even though they might pretend they could.

It can be a help knowing what day a data collector comes by. One can almost manage 3 weeks on a 14 day mooring.
