Top of the cabin sides has a flat horizontal surface. It’s approximately 40mm(1.5”) wide and could use a coat of paint. It’s not bad but wearing thin here and there. Have paint, what’s best to address it? Was thinking small foam roller just run along the surface? Bristles on a brush would I think create overflow down the sides.

Rollers always give a flatter finish if the surface is smooth.

It’s that thing you never put on your boats.

Do you mean the top of the gunwale or the roof edge? I think you'd be fine with a small roller on either as long as you don't overload it.

Are you talking about the grab rail top ? I'd go for a roller as metanoia suggests. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to abuse and insult someone else, and begin pages of mindless, pointless insults. I'd get out while you can my friend 😁 Rog

Perhaps you could shove the roller in the genny outlet - just for tonight Spoke with him a little earlier and he isn’t wired up quite right. You know how it is, get this sort of thing very occasionally and I’ve learned just to roll with it. We can always have a layin tomorrow 👍😊

I am no expert but I think the perceived wisdom is to apply by roller, closely followed by “laying off” (smoothing over) with a brush. I think a roller on its own tends to leave a “textured” finish. Which is great for emulsion paint on a wall, less good for the sides of a boat.
