Did you read the advert ? This line was quite informative I thought. "Due to a company branch being located in Poland, ability to speak communicative Polish is fundamental." Rog Sniggering....

Yes, they almost certainly are looking for Poles, quite possibly because working conditions are so bad that they know that English people wouldn't put up with it. But I'd rather that was made clear at the advertisement stage rather than wasting my time dragging me along to an interview when they have no intention of hiring me.
Works the other way round too though, many British transport companies won't employ eastern Europeans and specify "Must have excellent command of spoken and written English" in the advert which is a coded way of saying "Fuck off, Piotr".

To be fair though being able to understand English in a English speaking work environment is actually helpful for safety. The last few winters I’ve worked with people who can’t speak a word of English. Which when you supervising them makes it difficult to explain what you want them to do.

I knew a bloke who was a French Polisher. People always asked where he came from.

It's very borderline. If a business can justify it then indirect discrimination can be justified if there is a clear business need.
Because they have one branch is pushing boundaries. If its only a requirement when speaking to that branch then that maybe OK, if they are required to only speak Polish then it's starting to cross the boundary.
I wonder if they employ polish speaking brits.

Looking at their team, they have a few foreign nationals employed to deal with customer in their original country. It makes perfect sense to employ a German to deal with German markets and customers.
But at warehouse op level?
ETA, all candidates are required to have excellent written / oral communication in English and Polish.
Can't see an issue with that to be fair.

That is true. I suspect deep down they want poles but they need to comply with the law.
Saying that, I know quite a few and work with about 30, bar one or two they all speak pretty good English.

They tend to be good workers as well. But the advert is still very close to being discriminating. Which is what I was pointing out in the post.

Ita an interesting subject.
