Just had an email from a liveaboard mate -
Ey up,
There’s a new clause in my boat insurance.....
5.6 If Your Craft , tender or toys are fitted with Lithium-ion batteries they must be charged within daylight hours,
must not be left unattended whilst being charged and they must be used in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations/instructions.
So, I have to turn my battery management/charger off at night when I’m in bed and during the day when I’m out at work. Hmm.

The end of the World is nigh!
Repent! Repent! Or just don't tell 'em.
Its when the BS scheme gets interested that it gets interesting.

Someone is going to start selling battery safes.
No Mr BS man you can't see in the safe because it contains sensitive documents and all of my gold.

I mean it is a good idea not to leave cheap Chinese products containing lithium ion batteries charging unattended. But for a Lifepo4 charged from an mppt controller what is the issue?

Jim is talking about big cat batteries if you read the title.
Maybe he has a Tiger in the tank.

MPPT failing and providing full pv array voltage to the battery? I’ve got one mppt controller that has been on for 15years it still hasn’t failed.

Yes but even if 1 in ten thousand failed and caused horrific burn injuries to a group of school kids who happened to be passing followed by a major RTA and helicopter collisions the unsurance and the BS would definitely get interested.

There’s been a few house fires caused by cheap electric scooters but I’ve not heard of house insurance companies saying no electric scooters yet.

Someone is going to start selling battery safes. Maybe, but even better would be a secure compartment built into the steelwork.
