Many companies charge extra for monthly direct debit, I suspect this is what CRT are working towards. It's a sly way of putting up the fee further. Any surcharge for direct debits cannot be more than it costs the business to process that payment. People like Insurers bumped them up by effectively calling it a loan. I wonder If they will go down that route. I wouldn’t be surprised if crt become a pay day lender.

Just been glancing over CRT's interactive map of toilet and shower facilities. Absolutely nothing on it. Perhaps they see it as aspirational. canalrivertrust.org.uk/boating/go-boating/boat-facilities-and-services/toilets-and-showersAlso it says the following: Find a toilet or shower You can find our toilets and showers by zooming into any of our maps at your location. Click the red i icon on the bottom right to bring up the icons key. No such icon appears to exist.

They are making it very opaque how many they have closed and how many are still in use.

I can't find any information at all on elsan facilities. Or water points. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.

If I was in charge I would apply heavy supplements to three categories of boat and owner. 1. Widebeam boats. 2. Boats with composting toilets. 3. Twats.

Wasn't there talk some while ago about the fact that there are only two licences - a leisure licence and a trading licence...?

Technically this is correct but given that Continuous Cruiser is a status now written down on a .gov website it seems like this group is being separated out for one reason or another.
Maybe there is another agenda at play.
perhaps someone somewhere with influence is terribly jealous of people who can creep around on ditches in corridor shaped steel tubes willy nilly and wants to stop this happening.
It could be a personal thing after all they say Adolf my hero had some personal issues which helped him form his policies.

Wasn't there talk some while ago about the fact that there are only two licences - a leisure licence and a trading licence...? That seems to have gone by the by. I think it may be raised again. I certainly hope so. As a genuine CCer I do agree it's unfair that those who pay to keep their boat in a marina should pay the same as me to use the waterways 365 days of the year. However, being brutal, I suppose that is their choice. Hence there not being any difference (until now) in a "leisure" licence however you choose to use it. I met an interesting young man this spring, cc'ing whilst renting out his home. His argument with these self righteous ones (he is lovely but his boat and general appearance probably offends many of the CWDF types) being that he has only used ONE lock of water, continuously cruising in the same direction, whilst those marina dwellers cause untold damage to the same two locks every second weekend ..........

Interesting argument. Did he appear to be a substance abuser?

However, being brutal, I suppose that is their choice. Hence there not being any difference (until now) in a "leisure" licence however you choose to use it. But the thing is, those like us who keep our boat in a marina don’t pay CRT the same as you. We pay a lot more. The same licence fee and then the 10% mooring fee to CRT. Our mooring is around £2500 so of that £250 goes to CRT. So as a rough estimate and assuming same boat lengths, we pay about 25% to CRT more than you do, despite using less rubbish disposal, water, and we never use elsan disposal. Having been out this week there do seem to be a lot of boats out (moored unoccupied on the towpath) and our marina occupancy, which always used to be 100%, is way down. I suspect more people giving up on marinas and moving to CC, even though they don’t live aboard (the so called “dumpers”). Maybe CRT are realising this and in order to keep the same income stream, see the need to directly charge CCers more. It doesn’t seem unfair to me.
