Jane and I got into a discussion following our cinema trip and I wondered what your thoughts on the issue under debate was ?
The basic premise was the unfairness in our society in standards of beauty.
Women are required to be enhanced, made-up and beautiful, whilst men are just accepted as they are, however they appear.
Is it based on the patriarchal nature of our society ?
Of course the balance is beginning to shift slightly ... there are a few, perhaps over-manicured young men in the public eye these days.

Rog I'm not sure this is true any more. With the advent of Insta etc young men are also under a lot of pressure to look good. Hence mental health issues and suicide rates. But anyway, women are not forced to wear makeup and have bodily enhancements, they do so because they want to. And yes maybe because they are pressurised into conforming, but that pressure could be resisted. As you know I am a raving poofter but even so, I can't imagine getting up close and personal to a young lady clarted in pancake makeup with plucked eyebrows, inflated lips and hair extensions. I have dallied with the occasional female when I was young and foolish and before I knew better, but they were real people, not people hiding under layers of disguise.

We were considering those on film and TV rather than everyday life ... the discussion prompted by our cinema trip. On Andyberg's point ... I was summoned to a 'well man clinic' some years ago on achieving 60 years of age, where I too was told all was well, but was warned that I was obese being 13 stone 7 pounds and 6 feet tall π± I was told I should be no heavier for my height than 12 stone ! I never did lose weight ... in fact these days I'm fourteen stone π Rog
