"She and her partner pay Β£1,300 per year for a licence as "continuous cruisers" with no home mooring.
But under the proposed changes, this would more than double."
What?
I've not seen a suggestion anywhere that the licence fee is going to double. Obviously over time it will like everything else but this is bullshit.

"People who live on a boat without a home mooring are on the lowest incomes of the whole of the boating community," she said."
Does this include people who are renting their houses out?
Fuck Off Idiots.
All that is happening is a nice comfortable way of life with incredibly low costs even if the licence is doubled has been hijacked by publicity seeking entitled fuckwits.
This is going to fuck things up you stupid cunts.

He posted the same article last night which is why I quoted my same reply...What a laughable washout it turned out to be!ππ It was a bit of a wash-out, but then, that was always going to be the case. Nobody really gives a shit. A bit of shouting for a few days after the announcement, then a realisation that it would amount to a few extra quid a month, which will without doubt come from from benefits. So the government will end up giving crt the extra funding anyway. Funny old world.

Andrew I think you just have to accept there are more people on the waterways than when you started.

Exactly. When I was cruising around on my narrow boat 25 yars ago I was approached a number of times by people wanting to do films. I politely declined as not interested but even back then before YouTube there was obviously demand.
I had someone last summer wanting to so a film about my floating electric beer drinking platform. I said maybe we can talk. Did not leave contact details but they know where I am.
I'll be famous. Not.

Personally I blame social media, all the YouTube videos telling every one how cheap it is. Yes and the newspaper arrrrticles. This could all go pear shaped when people who have not thought it through get stuck on boats and start ageing. Its quite interesting thinking about the motives. I always wanted to live on a boat since I was 11. I still am 11 and live on boats and always will provided the elf remains alright and I don't get older than 11. A friend (!) of mine lives on a narrow boat in a marina but his real desire is to have a house. The boat is a compromise.

Itβs all gone pear shaped already. The ones whoβve moved on because itβs trendy or the ones with money, will just move on to the next thing. Itβs interesting how social medias attention changes something. Like living in vans for instance, 10-15 years ago it was a pretty marginal way to live. Yes people had been living in motor vehicles for along time, but only people on the edges of society. Cue social media interest, it becomes an aspirational lifestyle choice. So instead of Β£1000 vans with diy fit outs, you Β£30,000-40,000 vans. Lots of companies spring up to make money out of it. Your average John and Jane want to live in vans and it becomes main stream. Usually leading to the original van dwellers being priced out of the lifestyle. Oh well the modern world I suppose, nothing stays underground and edgy for long.
