We choose not to travel on rivers (unless necessary) as the requirement to understand tides, weather, shoaling and flow patterns is an additional responsibility we're not prepared to apply ourselves to, but each to their own.
However in my naivety it seems for someone to attempt to negotiate the Glory Hole with such an obvious flow, and with so much clutter about the boat seems destined to chance problems.

Indeed.
Mind you my old friend has been on boats since the sixties and even after he smashed his leg in a motorbike accident and hobbled out of hospital in 1985 he still carried on. A cripple for the last 40 yars but still living independent on a boat.
He is 78. So there is hope.

But the ageing population on boats is definately going to become more and more of an issue. Especially a lot of people who live on boats, donβt also own houses or have the financial means to buy one.

Yes. I would add the group who actually don't want to live on a boat at all and were only drawn to it for financial or live the dream reasons. Its bad news for these types.

Itβs going to be interesting to see how it all pans out in the next 10-15 years.

Rog You've never mentioned this reticence to navigate rivers before...

Its not CRTβs responsibility to take care of elderly boaters, if they cant cope they need to move into sheltered /rented accommodation or in with family...Just like what happens now!
