In February we announced plans to streamline our cylinder range to phase out the 3.9kg propane and 4.5kg butane sizes.
Customers using these cylinder sizes, particularly in the boating and caravanning communities, told us they were frustrated by the limited availability of alternatives to these sizes of cylinder. We listened to their concerns and reviewed options for returning these cylinders back into circulation.
We’re now pleased to announce that we’ll continue to supply the 3.9kg propane and 4.5kg butane sizes.
What’s changed?
Since the announcement, we have continued to fill a small number of these cylinders. And, following recent modernisation to our filling centres, we can now increase the supply of these cylinders.
We’ll also start to refurbish and return cylinders back into the network to improve availability. This will take a little time as we are investing in a significant capacity increase in reconditioning facilities, but we’re working hard to return supply to normal as soon as possible.

Presumably the experimental withdrawal hit their bottom line. The small bottles seem to generate more profit than the larger bottles.
It also coincides with a lot of petrol stations doing away with self fill LPG pumps.

Calor are a caring and altruistic company who cared about the impact that withdrawal had had on boaters and caravanners, understood their frustrations and listened to their concerns. Try to be less cynical.

It was delicious, thank you. But are you sure you are posting on the right thread? Right thread ? Well yes, normally this general chat lives in the "Don't know why..." thread. Not that it matters I suppose.

Sorry ... I was prompted by considering our gas usage for dinner compared to yours.

Ah ok. Virtually no gas was harmed in the production. I even toasted one side of the bread on the stove.

I bet there are some mightily pissed orf Boaters who have recently done modifications to the detriment of their perfectly nice little Boats in order to fit the 6kg bottles.
And then the blighters row back on it.
Shocking.
Fortunately Dulcinea was designed to use the small 3.9/4.5 or the next size up which is the same diameter. The country estate Boat has 2x13kg.

I had a spare empty 4.5kg butane bottle which I was gifted some time ago so I traded that for a full one just before the withdrawal. So in February 2023 I had one almost full bottle in use and two spare full bottles. I'm still on the first bottle, but I thought there might be a U-turn on this within a couple of years so I was prepared to wait and see. I get about a year out of a 4.5kg butane bottle.

A year !
I suppose winter means you can cook on the stove mostly, but a year seems incredible.

A year ! I suppose winter means you can cook on the stove mostly, but a year seems incredible. Rog Yes, I use the stove for a lot of cooking but I never use the oven, and if I do use the gas stove, I always cook things that cook very quickly. There is also more heat in butane than propane. Incidentally, the reason Chinese food developed in the style it did was that there were historic shortages of cooking fuel in Old China so food was chopped into small pieces and cooked very quickly over a few bits of fiercely burning wood.

I use quite a lot of gas because of cooking pasta and grilling sausages. Oh yes and the bacon.
