It's an idiom, not an axiom. You say tamata

As a matter of interest, what was it that drove Foxy away? He died of the Covid.

I thought the slimy indians caught up with him.

Ok, the full story is that Ross became obsessed with Covid, his input here deteriorated to the point where he posted nothing other than cut n' paste articles about Covid, and convinced himself that the Covid restrictions would never end. Accordingly, he decided to sell his boat.
The broker he selected for this sensed his desperation and in cahoots with a bogus buyer and his tame surveyor friend, had a survey prepared which suggested that the vessel was a barely floating tea-bag, despite Ross having had two surveys undertaken which stated that the hull was in perfect condition.
However, as a result of the Mickey Mouse survey, Ross was persuaded to knock £10,000 off of the asking price. A week later the boat re-appeared for sale at Ross's full asking price.
It was pointed out to Ross by several members that he had very likely been scammed and he became very angry with us. It is very common for the victim of a scam to become more angry with the person who reveals to them that they have been scammed than they are with the people who scammed them, so I forgave him for this.
However he decided that he did not wish to stay on the forum so left for pastures new, and I personally wish him all the best on his new trajectory.

Also to say the boat was on sale again a week later is yet another example of Vince's capacity for exaggeration, although TBF it did hit the online market suspiciously soon afterwards.

Even so, Stabby took every delight in 'rubbing the salt in'.

Quite. Well-wishing was, at the time, not on the menu, although once more TBF Ross went out of his way to annoy pretty much everyone in much the same style as dear old Tony, whose arse he kissed with regularity.

I gave Ross best advice, which was to get his Covid monomania under control before it ended up causing him tangible harm, just as I gave Tony Dunkley best advice in suggesting that he ensured Halcyon Daze was licensed before challenging CRT's requirements for said licence. It's not my fault if both of them were too thick to take the advice on board.

I remember Foxy selling his boat but missed the aftermath. I'm rather glad that I did.

Just been on the new Copilot AI from microsoft about something to do with engines. It was quite good. So I asked it "what do you know about Tony Dunkley, boatman".
Tony Dunkley, a skilled boatman and engineer, has left his mark on the canal world. Here are some notable details about him:
Boats Associated with Tony Dunkley: He has been connected to several canal boats, including: Black Swan Selby Michael Arthur-a-Bland Halcyon Daze. Legal Disputes and Approach: Tony Dunkley has had his share of disagreements with the Canal & River Trust (CRT). His approach is often unconventional; rather than taking a rational stance, he tends to make accusations and create tension. Recent Development: Recently, there was a positive turn in the case of his narrowboat Halcyon Daze. Sense prevailed, and a favorable decision was reached. While Tony Dunkley’s interactions with CRT have been eventful, his involvement in the canal world remains notable.

Anyway, nice to have a bit of intelligence on the forum even if it is only artificial.

The only canal boat listed there is "Halcyon Daze", . . and a great many vessel names are missing completely. A bit more comprehensive, but by means exhaustive list would read as follows :- Commercial Carrying, Tugs, Workboats, and Passenger Vessels owned, operated or worked/skippered by Tony Dunkley :- 'Farnworth' ......................................................... L&L Shortboat - British Waterways. 'Jaguar' & 'Achilles' ............................................. Commercial Carrying Narrowboats - ex-FMC & GUCCCo 'Hyperion' & 'Pictor' ............................................. Commercial Carrying Narrowboats - ex-GUCCCo. 'Albert' (paired with 'Pictor') ................................. Commercial Carrying Narrowboat - ex-A.Wander Ltd (Ovaltine). 'Hyperion' .......................................................... Ex-GUCCCo - converted to passenger carrying. 'Arthur-a-Bland'................................................... River Tug (Bantam/Pusher). 'Exeter' .............................................................. River Tug. 'No. 28' .............................................................. River/Canal - Bantam/Pusher Tug. 'Nottingham Crusader' .......................................... St John Ambulance Passenger/Trip Boat. 'BD1' & 'BD8' ....................................................... Bucket Dredgers 'Aire' (MCB) ......................................................... Motor Crane Boat (Sheffield Size). 'Humber Navigator' ............................................... Tanker - subsequently converted to AIL Carrier. 'Brocodale' ........................................................... Tanker - converted to dry cargo.
