I was unsure where to put this. Global warming is changing the wildlife.
Has anyone else seen shockingly unusual animals in waterways or watercourses?
I am keeping quiet about the alligator as do not want to spread fear.
There are NO alligators in the Thames.

I regularly see Terrapins up from Autherly Junction on the Shroppie. They bask on some of the big stones opposite Barnhurst Sewage outfall. There must be some connection.

Perhaps the green, noisy parakeets which are a feature of journeys down the GU should be included.

Yes the parakeets are getting everywhere. I remember when they were rare. Used to see them in Home park (Hampton Caught) walking the dogs in the early 90s. They spread rapidly. Horrible noise they make.
We get the terrapins on the River as well occasionally.
Otters here and there too and a seal was spotted near Kingston.

Bright sunlight today and saw something skimming the surface of the water as I was waiting for a lock.
It came quite close and I could see it was a bat !
Clearly hunting flies, it followed us for quite a distance ... I got clear views and even got a video on my phone.
Turns out it was a daubentons bat (also called water bat) which indeed feeds on flies over water.
Twenty years on the boat and I've never seen one before !

Rog Once saw a bat flying over a stream in daylight. Next there was an audible thwack as a peregrine got it. I reckon it was a Daft Bat.
