It must be the wealthy locals who are doing the fly tipping, when else? No one would travel far to fly tip. If it's legitimate boaters overflowing the bins, then CRT aren't getting them emptied frequently enough.

Rich or poor, people are the same. People suck.

It’s the people paying for permanent moorings near by who are getting the worse deal. Because as part of the mooring contract they are supposed to get waste disposal. So they are paying for a service they are not receiving. Very odd way to treat your paying customers.

What's the reckoning there's a clause in small print, just as we don't get a refund if the canal drains.

My local CRT bins could be taken away without me having a say. Crap situation, but I wonder how many of the moorers are living on their boats on a leisure only mooring. It's a tough life but as people keep telling Tony, deal with it...

You all seem to be forgetting that this is a “charity,” that positions it’s self as ecology conscious. It’s much easier and cheaper to empty bins than pick the rubbish up after it’s been dumped in the local environment. Or maybe we all have to start burning our waste?

Or reduce waste by rejecting it at source. If shopping in a supermarket one can take paper bags then unpack various items and leave the plastics in the shopping basket or trolley.
I'm happy to burn plastics it doesn't seem to be the end of the world.

As I read the article, the Council has been quite happy to let CaRT sort out what they consider their problem, when it is their own residents who cause much of the problem. CaRT therefore have taken action to throw the problem back to the council. Refuse and recycling is a problem which needs addressing on a national scale, and it is not sufficient for the authoritiesto make it more difficult/expensive to dispose of items or elt other bodies like CaRT to take up the slack. Whilst boaters may burn theirs, it would appear that their contribution is minimal to the overall problem. In urban areas fly tippers find some of the most disadvantaged areas to tip, or find the nearest secluded farm track or roadside ditch to throw their crap. If the leisure moorings are being lived in, then maybe CaRT should enforce their own rules, or apply for residential planning permission and charge accordingly. If the latter, I wonder how co-operative the Council would be to such an application.

Fly tippers are the salt of the earth and pillars of the community doing a job nobody else wants to do.
How else is one supposed to get rid of old sofas and random shite from refurbishments of houses?

They caught some people around Leeds a few years ago who had an interesting business model. They rented industrial spaces, warehouses or factory units. Then they would dump or get paid to dump waste inside. When it’s full to the rafters, just shut the door lock it walk away and stop paying the rent. They had done about five or six big units before they got caught. It was estimated hey made about £6 million.
