I see you have your officious traffic wardens outfit on today, "move along, move along, nothing to see here". It seems to work for you Jim. I grant you the whole instance seems unsavoury, but he asked and was apparently given. As Andyberg says, the political class, of any colour, seem to have a sense of entitlement when money that is not theirs is concerned. Although the door is now mostly closed, it usually meant that an MP's spouse/partner was elected alongside them with a generous salary as Office Manager or adviser. The SNP ministers private use of his computer by his children was only discovered when he failed to monitor and they racked up £ 000's. I see Tim Murrell was re-arrested today in relation to their misuse of funds, and I'm waiting for the investigation into their leader's family being relocated from Gaza. No doubt there is some investigative journalist burning the candle. At a local level, in Birmingham there is a taxi driver who was given a contract by one of his council mates who managed to buy a new taxi and a new car from the proceeds of taking 1 disabled pupil to and from school,1 1/4 miles each way, for 5 days a week during term time. Birmingham went bankrupt and is now in special measures because of such misappropriation . I dont think that there will ever be any solution to such practices whilt the cookie jar has an open lid. Much of the financial mess in Birmingham was caused by the ruling which required the council to pay millions in back pay to women to retrospectively upgrade their pay rates to match those of men in what were deemed to be similar roles.

However if the women of Birmingham had been paid properly in the first place the debt wouldn't have arisen. Or do you disagree that people should be paid equally for work of equal value, whatever their gender?

However, if you accept a job at a certain rate, that's what you accept. A contract is formed. Such a precedent should mean that men who were paid their pension from the age of 65 should receive payments equivalent to the sums women received from the age of 60. That's very clear.

In other news, Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrel was arrested again today and has now been charged with embezzlement. How very sad. NOT! Hopefully the Crankie will be next.

Much of the financial mess in Birmingham was caused by the ruling which required the council to pay millions in back pay to women to retrospectively upgrade their pay rates to match those of men in what were deemed to be similar roles. The equal pay/staff grading was an exercise by the unions to railroad inexperienced/incompetent Council 'Human Resources managers. Despite the claim that public undertakings have to pay for quality employees, there is little to see that the people employed are anything like. The current debacle with the resistance to returning to office based work to manage the abysmal performance in the public sector typifies this. But then again, the people charged with achieving this are probably benefiting from the convenience themselves. The mismanagement of the railways is yet another example where a train drivers pay leaves that of some doctors for dead, and all tied in with gold plated pensions. Meanwhile the lot of supermarket workers and delivery drivers for instance sees little improvement whilst we all expect 24 hour opening and daily deliveries. Despite the reports and industrial action the Amazons of this world seem to resolve their problems without undue delay or excess cost, but then they have to maintain a service and cannot just dip into a purse they can force us to fill.
