Taffs evening walk tonight had some added interest when Taff met up with about 30 swans. Taff went into full sheepdog mode and tried to herd them up well it was chaos he was between the canal and the swans, some did short hops and jumped in, some stood their ground and some went for Taff! Taff realising that 10 swans a running at him was far to much for him so he took off in my direction. About 12 swans went off up the towpath at speed straight at a cyclist with no lights on, well faced with a bunch of angry swans the cyclist went straight into the canal which is between 9 - 20 feet deep. Me I ran for my life, but not as fast as Taff, and luckily for me the the swans took to the water leaving me knackered and Taff nowhere in sight! Well I helped the cyclist out of the water and scarpered pretty damn quick leaving the cyclist wondering how to recover his bike. Did I do wrong?

Deny everything, nobody can prove a thing, after all everyone knows that swans are nutters. Remember, tell them nothing, if they ask make them buy a program. Phil

Unbeknownst to Taff, that section of the towpath has security cameras...

just hope he's not a thunderboat reader!
You did help him out..that was so brave of you and cyclist may chose not to use that bit of towpath anymore..so perhaps good came out if the episode.
What a daft dog, tackling all them swans, bet he will avoid in the future.

Patty I write about him in the Thunderbar, in real life he is like that daft as a brush but the best natured dog ever. As for swans I can put money on him trying to herd the next bunch he sees he love rounding them up and putting them in the canal

Molly never learnt either..with her it was rats and she didn't have the killer instinct to dispatch fast..yet she couldn't leave them alone..she had the inside of her mouth ripped open by one that refused to die quietly but still wouldn't give up. She could kill mice with a nip.

Was that down by the winding hole behind 'Swan Lake' cafe?
The swans are well established and in huge numbers there. I think they wear pit boots.
Jane's going to knit you and Taff balaclavas. They may lower your profile.
Rog
PS My old dog Fletcher, on first encountering swans at Kidderminster opposite the church, decided he'd chase them into the canal. Like a cartoon he ran after them and suddenly realised he'd left the bank. Splash! The look of horror on his face like Wylie Coyote he he

Why they go there with all the Eastern europeans I dont know I regularly see large piles of swan feathers there, and the police now patrol there regularly
