No need really. C&RT are very kindly sending regular updates, along with reminders for donations. If you are signed up to their stoppage alerts (any boater needs to be so) you'll get them. It's a big job, but it will get done. Like the NHS, C&RT can be poor, but for the big stuff, they are jolly good Rog

As for fixing the breach, with the technology and machinery available to them these days it isn't really that much of a job. I can recall British Waterways and Willow Wren boatmen loading in Manchester Docks in the 1960's, talking about when the cut bust in a similar manner near Minshull in the late 1950's. Some sixty years ago, and without the kit and resources that are available these days, BTW had it fixed and open to traffic again in about five weeks. Two weeks, tomorrow, into a very similar breach and all that Parry and the rest of the useless articles that make up C&RT's management have achieved is a lot of meaningless blethering, and digging out the begging bowl !

I have to agree with you Tony. Their behaviour in the face of an unexpected problem (although as the controlling agency of a canal it could hardly be called unexpected) is pathetic. The Church Minshull breach was huge, at the time apparently the largest breach recorded in British canals. The breach was 15 foot deep and 100 feet wide and emptied 7 miles of canal. .......... As Tony says the Shroppie was up and running again in 5 weeks. A major organisation worth it's salt has contingency plans for any high risk incidents. On a canal system, a breach in one form or another is a virtual certainty. There should be plans that can be commenced immediately to correct the problem. CRT's plan seems to be issue press releases, informing everyone that there is a major disaster and that they are exploring every avenue to find the money and start a fund raising campaign. Bloody pathetic !!!

I am confident that, after a full ecological study, and a lengthy Health and Safety assessment, the breech will be repaired.
I am equally confident it will not be completed by two hundred men with shovels and wheelbarrows, and within a matter of weeks.
But it will be repaired and no doubt reopened this summer.

Perhaps the hole can be filled in with Mr Parry's bonuses?

Just to clarify that Parry does not receive a bonus. Such conjecture can often be credited to Allan Richards.

My bet would be, the canal will be open for the main school holiday period towards the end of July. I know I'm a trusting soul, and incredibly naive (please note I didn't give a year ) Rog
