Wow that was a narrow escape. I'm driving to Switzerland tomorrow on sis business. Staying just long enough to avoid the trauma of seeing the knife man in person.

Seen that on the internet before, does the car actually drive the boat? I'm not sure. I couldn't see a tiller inside it but it was quite full of clutter so I couldn't see if it still had a steering wheel.

Charlie has gone home now, from Uxbridge. He was a really good help, we did 24 wide locks just yesterday and now there's only one more to do before Central London. I'm planning to do the tidal Thames on Friday week and hopefully one or both of the boys will be back for that leg. Here is "Boat of the Day". Are you still planning to go out at Limehouse? Also, there is a good Tesco’s at Bulls Bridge if you can moor up there. When we were there a few weeks back, we moored up next to a dredger as the facility moorings seem to be very popular with piss takers.

If coming from Uxbridge and turning left at Bulls Bridge I usually bypass the horrible tesco and do the shopping at the canalside sainsburys in Alperton. Its not a "better place" as its also an awful shi thole but there is generally more space to moor there and its a smaller more tidy shop. I will stop at the tesco in bulls bridgeistan if in need of emergency beer rations but not for normal shopping.
There is also a canal side Sainsbury at Kensal Green which is handy.

I think the car picture above is actually at the front of the boat the wrong way round so nothing to do with steering its just a glorified cratch.
Not sure but if it is laid out that way then there will be some visibility issues. To me it has a bit of an air of pointlessness but I suppose it gives more weatherproof storage.

Yes, have my boy(s) and my Mum coming along for the ride from Paddington to Limehouse next Thursday, then we will go onto the Thames on Friday late morning, I think it is about 1100. I've stopped at Tesco at Bulls Bridge before and I'll try to get on there tomorrow.

No, it's on the stern. It was a Volkswagen people carrier. He stripped it and stuck it on the boat at coy carp a few years back, leaving the engine etc on the towpath. There was quite a stink about the crap he left, and it led to confrontation with locals and boaters, (understandable). This resulted in several boats having their windows etc kicked in. Typical piss takers who tend to frequent small areas.

The weed down there is pretty shocking so my top tip is to remove the rope, black strapping, polythene and weed off your prop before going out onto the tidal thames. I filled a bucket with the shit. Then again, you know the score already! I’m quite jealous actually, I’ve walked the Paddington arm but never taken a boat down there yet. Are you coming back up the Oxford or turning up through Brentford?

I'll be going through Teddington then back up the Thames and South Oxford towards my mooring. Alas, it is nearly time to think about dragging my arse back to work, but it's been a great Summer so far.

I ave not used the bulls bridge water point for about 15 years and I am not a Rastafarian. I do sit on back of boat drinking cold beer though. Unfortunately if my memory serves me right the big Indian tesco does not have a beer fridge. Last time I was there a few weeks back I bought beer from the slimy Indian who has an excellent fridge 1 minute from norwood top lock

It does not appear to have a rudder which is what confused me but I suppose if engine has been removed maybe its a houseboat (giggle)

The weed situation between bulls bridge and top locks is quite serious. Obviously as I am a real man and I have manly boats its not a problem but when I came through few weeks ago the weed was stopping boats. I even had someone in an expensive looking ugly Burscough barge (flat stern slightly nasty type boat) asking how i was going to get through it. I said go forwards wait for gearbox to start humming more than usual then reverse briefly* to clear the propeller then forward. Only other time I have seen that sort of heavy blanket weed was on the middle level link in the early naughties. It was bad weed. Maaan. However there arrrr some old techniques you can employ to deal with it but *you may have to kiss and make up with TonyDunkley to find out what a "throw back" is (or is not in this case )

I'll have to wait and see. Fortunately my prop is quite good at dealing with general vegetation which is just as well because the weed hatch is a nightmare to access.
