Actually I'm being thick you won't need to go there because you are turning left at Bulls Bridge anyway and after that you're going up the Thames back to the oxford coffin locks. So in fact you will not be subject to the weed issues anyway as the worst bit is between bulls bridge and norwood top locks which you would only need to traverse if you were en route to the Thames at Brentford avoiding London.
Which is good !

I believe weed growth is still quite bad down the GU and on the Regent's Canal, although I've not yet had a vegetation/propeller interface situation which could not be resolved by a quick blast of reverse. One project I have in mind for the future is to cut an access hatch in the counter to make accessing the weed hatch easier though.

I find that my belly, after years of drinking beer, acts as a great cushion when going down on the weed hatch. ...and no, that’s not some kind of weird semaphore...

I'm anti weed hatches. In ten years of cruising around the system in my narrow boat (1996-2006 approx) I only lifted the weedhatch about 5 times. I did have a big prop (Russell newbery DM2 and a 22 inch diameter prop) but I prefer lying down and dealing with things with a decent boathook. Or reverse obviously.
Its more tricky with a smaller prop and my traveling partner (my mum) had a similar sized boat but with a much smaller prop and she was in and out of the weed hatch much more often.
If you do cut a lifting hatch in the deck make sure the drain channels and pipes are extra large because they -will- cause problems. I wouldn't do it personally as it adds a route for rain water to get in.

I haven't been for two or three weeks but the weed was pretty manageable on the Paddington arm and the Regents section of the Grand Union. The bit between bulls bridge and norwood top lock was massively worse. An order of magnitude worse.
I can't guarantee it but I don't think you'll get much trouble on the Paddington arm and regents section.

If coming from Uxbridge and turning left at Bulls Bridge I usually bypass the horrible tesco and do the shopping at the canalside sainsburys in Alperton. Its not a "better place" as its also an awful shi thole but there is generally more space to moor there and its a smaller more tidy shop. I will stop at the tesco in bulls bridgeistan if in need of emergency beer rations but not for normal shopping. There is also a canal side Sainsbury at Kensal Green which is handy. Proof positive that Saintsbury's exists to keep the riffraff out of Waitrose.

The sign was due to be replaced anyway... Yes, you could ask for some of the new blue shiny ones and just change them, whether they need it or not.
