Hoping we're going to read a report from our 'two lovely boys' on how the tunnel passage went, but just received a C&RT alert that the Rochdale is now closed.
If they weren't having bad luck, they'd be having no luck at all!
Which way now for Telemachus?

Tunnel transit was fine, we would have got through in about 1.5 hrs but had to wait at the last waystop for the trip boat. Needless to say tourists have priority over people using the canal for navigation! But anyway, CRT bod very helpful and friendly. Shiny, spic and span visitor centre and trip boat, around the corner near the station at the visitor moorings, can’t get within 3’ of the side. hmmmm.....
Walked down the E flight to 26E, plenty of water. But below 26E a moderately long pound and very very low. Walked into Slaithwaite and then the rain came on hard so got the bus down to 9E. Lots of fencing, barriers, signage, even poetry on the balance beam. But still a big hole beside the bottom gate and needless to say, no sign of any workmen at 15:45 on a Friday.
So doesn’t look like we will be going that way. Working up a plan to go up the Rochdale but oh surprise surprise, this evening a stoppage notice for lock 45 so the Rochdale is closed. The northern canals aren’t really navigable, are they?!

Thanks for the report, and sorry it's not working out. I'm hoping this year is something of a low water mark for Northern waterways as far as C&RT's management is concerned, and that they will grasp the need to rebuild confidence as a result of improved maintenance. Anyway.....that's my hope Rog

I hope none of his friends have seen this picture and grassed you up to him

Well it is that, but also a car halogen spotlight plonked on the roof pointing straight ahead. We got it for night cruising on the BCN 24hr challenge. I think the chances of passing a boat going the other way in Standedge are minimal

Hell of a photo. It's the one hour fifty minutes underground that is off putting. If I had a Hudson, I'd walk over the top and let the valet take the boat through Rog

The Rochdale is OPEN. It's fake news! Only summit closed Monday and Friday to let the level top up. Nick would still have his rivets coming this way! Just met a 72ft er, come up from Manchester, for Summitsup. They like it so much up here they are planning to stay the winter. (and before mr pickypantspedant leaps in, they know they can't co further than Salterhebble.)

Update on Monday.

Update on Monday. Yes. And yes just seen it. Its just across the valley from my house. Will get pics if time allows. Just putting new roof on woodshed, I have a great setup outside, looking across the valley to Pike house lock (45?) As for Jeff being all locked out, I regularly single hand them when Noreen isn't up to it. Certainly happy to help you up from Littleborough if I'm not working.
