Was that Dave and Gilly Rhodes in Vox Stellerum? Anyway according to CRT, the canal IS CLOSED at lock 45. Update on Monday. Yes. And yes just seen it. Its just across the valley from my house. Will get pics if time allows. Just putting new roof on woodshed, I have a great setup outside, looking across the valley to Pike house lock (45?) As for Jeff being all locked out, I regularly single hand them when Noreen isn't up to it. Certainly happy to help you up from Littleborough if I'm not working. They’re really nice, albeit Dave is an aging hippie! Gilly made our tiller tassel.

What’s not to like?!

Lock 45 is open again but the whole shebang is going to close soon (6th August). Who is the regional manager for the NW. I want to let them know what I think of the maintenance of their region. It used to be Chantelle (anyone with a name like that must be a nail polishing airhead) but she left, or was she booted out?

I'm sure if you phone the Wigan office they'll be only too pleased to assist you in getting your boat back on to the south western waterways, . . they've done it previously with something a fair bit bigger than yours via the Atlantic, Irish Sea and the Bristol Channel, and they didn't even send the owner an invoice to cover the cost.

Well, the simple fact is that it has already been the driest Summer since 1976 and will very soon overtake it, and if there isn't any rain then the reservoirs which feed the canals eventually run dry. The maintenance is largely irrelevant since far more water is lost through evaporation than lock leakage. How much money can you expect to be spent on a section of canal which is used by maybe 7 or 8 boats a day?

Well maybe if some canals run dry they can utilise this time to repair leaky lock gates instead of winter stoppages

How much money can you expect to be spent on a section of canal which is one of the highlights of the canal network used by maybe 7 or 8 boats a day?

Yes. This Summer has, so far, been the driest since 1961. The question needs to be asked (sorry ) - Where?
