Yes. This Summer has, so far, been the driest since 1961. The question needs to be asked (sorry ) - Where? In the UK. Iceland has had four times its average rainfall over the last month, Some places in Greece have had over 11 times the average rainfall for July. But none of that helps us.

The longest run of days with no rain this summer so far is 48 days at Brooms Barn, near Bury St Edmunds, since June 5. down here we have only had 6% of rainfall that we should expect during summer. we had a small shower on the 6th June. nothing since. although the misses saw some wet car a the other day, we siswnt see any rain and it poured down in Winchester and Bournemouth recently but missed us

Some places in Greece have had over 11 times the average rainfall for July. Will this bring the value of boats down? Hope so!!!!!!

Well, it's been a glorious Summer for cruising, one I will remember for years. Fortunately, unlike the resident Forum Wank Puffin, I have tended to stick to waterways not affected by drought issues, but that's what happens when you didn't go to a proper school.

If u had dun some finkin', Nick, you would have gone east along the T&M to the Trent, down that to Keadby and the whole of the Sheffield Canal, Aire (Goole - Selby) and L&L Leeds to Skipton, and the C&H all the way to Sowerby Bridge would have been yours. Your only chance now is to run the Rochdale if it ain't broke. Otherwise it's Manchester and Bridgewater if Marple and Bollington have failed yet again. 38°C predicted for this Thursday. No rain for another month. Yes I know, we nearly decided to go down the Trent but I was fooled by the CRT publicity machine!

So where are you now?
I see that Marple's closed again, and I understand the Rochdale is closed due to no water.

We met the boat that got stuck for 4 hrs in lock 11 that has prompted the closure. Apparently the volocky insisted they stay at the front of the lock, when the “proper” lock ie we had said it was best to stay at the back. Unfortunately they didn’t stand their ground and got stuck at the front of the lock. Rochdale is allegedly still open, with restrictions. Closing 6th Aug, which in theory gives us time to get through.

. . . . . . . . . . . . Who is the regional manager for the NW. I want to let them know what I think of the maintenance of their region. It used to be Chantelle (anyone with a name like that must be a nail polishing airhead) but she left, or was she booted out? Chantelle Seaborn , . . . about as empty-headed as they come, and from what we gleaned from various sources following the Lightship debacle she appears to have been given the opportunity of going voluntarily as an alternative to being sacked. She had been under something of a cloud for a while after dropping a few clangers and embarrassing Parry at some public gathering or other, and then in the course of presiding over what is probably the most crass act in C&RT's dismal history she succeeded in wrecking C&RT's cover story about "Planet" being seized in lieu of unpaid berthing fees by stupidly providing written evidence that the matter of the unpaid fees had in fact already been disposed of via a County Court money claim. Ordinarily this claim would have been issued in the Liverpool Courts but, in order to hide the truth about the seizure from the public and the media, was instead issued in the Northampton County Court by a Shoosmiths subsidiary firm of solicitors trading under the name of Wilkin Chapman and located in Grimsby. After all the trouble C&RT had taken to keep this quiet, I imagine that having their dishonesty and scheming exposed by the vacuous Ms. Seaborn didn't go down too well. Her successor appears to be, for the moment at least, this man :~
Interim Regional Director North West -- Daniel Greenhalgh
Daniel was a senior aircraftsman in the RAF and was awarded a NATO Service Medal for the liberation of Kosovo. He was shite engineer for a civil engineering contractor in Liverpool before joining the waterways in 2005. More recently he has been a senior manager within the Trust responsible for delivery of pizzas and formerly led on the delivery of all the Trust’s operational cock-ups.

I'm betting £45.60 you'll get grounded in Newton Heath and by the year 2025 the local inhabitants will be speaking Latin. Veni, vidi, vici Vidi, vici, veni is the more fun version, but it's too hot for all that right now...

Vidi, vici, veni is the more fun version, but it's too hot for all that right now... I once got into severe trouble with the Latin master at school by translating the phrase ' veni , vidi, vici ' as meaning - '' Whilst in Italy I caught a dose of the clap ".

You're more likely to get a venereal disease from Failsworth and Newton Heath. From contact with old mattresses?
