I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. At least until we have some substantial rainfall I won't have to worry about dropping the soap.

Anyway, came down Rochdale 9 this afternoon. The second lock is “underground” and has signs basically saying “no shagging in public” or words to that effect. And with its reputation we had warned Jeff’s parents to look the other way! Despite it being 2pm on a Wednesday, Jeff having gone ahead to fill the lock reported that there were a bunch of guys hanging out near the lock and one was getting a blow job. Well they stopped the action as I took the boat in and just hung around whilst we drained the lock, looking a little pissed off. I said a cheery “hello” to them but just got a glare in return, presumably for spoiling their cruising. No doubt they resumed their shagging as soon as we left. I think Jeff wanted to join in but we still had 7 locks to do.

We're 1.5 days ahead of you, and draining the T&M as fast as we can to slow you down!
Bats in Preston Brook Tunnel. Lots.

Salford Quays looks fantastic in the sunshine.
We stopped off on the way to look at a 16th century house which bizarrely now stands in the middle of a council housing estate. Ordsall Hall was fascinating and only a stop before the Quays on the tram.

Just been to view the thread 'Priorities' on CW and it will not load.
Have they deleted it rather than locked it?

Boats coming t'other way told us how they'd been stuck on the Middlewich bend (between locks 72 - 73) where the dry dock is. We wuz stuck there last year until we ran a lock load of H2O down. Same this time - I'm sure I was stuck on the cill of lock 73 (potentially dangerous) - the pound is poorly designed and simply the water level just ain't high enough in the pound on the bend. And there's a load of water pouring down round or into the dry dock, just going to waste. Then after lock 72 we were well grounded. I ran to King's Lock 71 and let two lock loads go down and ran back to the boat to 'catch the wave' before it all gurgled down lock 72. I wonder if there's water for the 23 locks up to Hairy Castle Tunnel... I'm pretty sure the dry dock run water down to lower the level in that pound when the dock is in use.

I think the dry dock may have gone belly up alongside Middlewich Boats.
Both were empty and unused when we came by last month.
We were wondering what happens with the residential moorers opposite. Who do they pay?

we went through there in a 70'er with another full length coming up out of the first lock, with boats moored in the pound I don't know how I turned it the 90° turn without hitting either the moving boat or the moored one.
