No cart would be a good thing. Before CRT people were moaning about BW. Can't remember when BW were formed but I'd bet that people were moaning about whoever was running it before that. The system is run down so needs a massive injection of cash. I am guessing this will come via private management and very significant increases in the cost of boat ownership. Some people pay several thousand pounds a year to have a boat. And they don't even live in it !!! British Waterways undoubtedly degenerated into an ever more useless and corrupt shitheap during their last few decades of existence, but even at their worst they never came close to being anything like the unmitigated disaster we're stuck with now.

When the oceans where teaming with life and just less regulations to deal with. I have always assumed that people moaning about the good old days was simply part of the ageing process. However I have noticed in recent times there seems to be a large increase in the number of stupidly inconsiderate idiots. I mean real ones. Of course I have got older as well but I do sometimes wonder if the old days actually were better. I would tend to think they probably were.

The whispergen is a sterling engine so it needs no lube, kero is better because its hotter than diesel plus less hydrocarbons because there is no oil. The bubble stove same applies less cleaning of the burner because no oil present. I have no engine as I am converting to electric to get the 25%discount on the license plus I always knew that diesel would be done for in the long run That's interesting, Peter, . . I didn't know that someone had finally got round to putting that Sterling engine design to good use. How does fuel consumption compare with conventional C.I. or S.I. engines ? Its a 35 amp charger at 24 volts it also creates 5kw of heat from the cooling water, it use about three quarters of a litre per hour at full bore which drops to one quarter of a litre per hour when its idling, temp is at 70 degrees in the radiators or the batteries are full. It really is silent, and when you are off grid like I am, its great in the winter heats boat and charges batteries.

Foxy has anybody ever to.d you that your weird? Or is it the lack of daylight and freezing temps driving you to drinking vodka? I always reckoned Foxy was a London City investor. I had a day out in Limehouse once, they are a nice bunch too, especially after a few beers and were looking forward to escaping and joining thier loved ones.Instead of joining their wifes ? Peter.

Are you still in a warm place Tony? Of course I am, . . . my HQ ! Well let’s think about the guy who has been sleeping in a tent about 50m in front of me for apparently months. I arrived here on Tuesday...erm no Wednesday..just don’t tell CRT. I’ve spoken to him a few times, and like me, can come over as a dick when we are pissed. Nice guy. didn’t nick anything when I had to leave my boat. So in my books a sound bloke. The question is, what would you do? It ranges from being stabbed, to learning a lot from someone going through shit

I read up on the Sterling design/principle donkey's years ago, and had assumed until now that the design had been forgotten about. Who's building them, and what range of power outputs are available ?

We once saw a small narrow boat with a tent erected inside it. Camping inside a boat. Slightly bizarre. There are always interesting tents on Ebay. Have you invited him to sleep in your warm & cosy boat? On a different astronomical plane, has anyone noticed Venus in the mornings recently? Very bright! Venus and Jupiter
