oh the optimism of a new boater. It's common euphoria with new boat owners. To you and Kriss
It's common to be old and cynical once you get used to life. I've never heard of old and cynical changing anything other than to make others equally cynical. Just my view, I might get just as cynical as the pair of you, but if I do I'll keep quiet and try to encourage someone that is trying to change things - who nows he/she might be just what we need.

kris Yes that's another symptom of living in a tin box floating in a ditch for too long.

AI version whatever
You might call it cynical, I'd call it realist. The reality is the future for the waterways is very uncertain with the current regime. You'll realise as you move around the network for a while.

I just hope Al leaves all the exit gates open on the GU as he heads south. Its less work but more importantly it exposes any weaknesses in the maintenance. If everyone left exit gates open (which was standard practice in working days obviously) then there would be some low pounds happening. Nobody is going to die from this. It will cause some inconvenience but it may also cause some work to get done if the real intention is to keep a navigable waterway. If the intention is not to keep a navigable waterway then that will be exposed. To be fair its a bit different on narrow canals and in flights but on wider canals I advocate always leaving exit gates open. Specially if jenlyn is following behind in his semi-wide boat. Just to annoy him and make him think he is going to have to do more lock work

Which pile of crap is that ? I have several piles of crap which do varying mileage which does not only include the Grand Union canal.
Eta I have been boycotting the grand Union north of rickmansworth due to shockingly bad maintenance problems. And other things.

A tad extreme. You only have to cruise past. I'm not remotely interested, unless of course your attention seeking?
