I have sometimes posted links to The Floater articles here; some of them, for me, have been incisive and revealing. I think someone needs to carry the torch and continue with exposing the truth. Whom will take up the challenge?

Whom will take up the challenge? Given the stated reason for retiring from the scene being the widespread apathy amongst boaters today - an accurate assessment - anybody contemplating taking up the mantle would have to be content with being a voice crying out in the wilderness, hearkened to only by a few of the already like-minded.

The apathy aspect is annoying - boaters are generally more chilled than most and this gets abused by both public and commercial organisations.
On the positive though, change can usually be achieved (or at least kick started) by just a few people.
Peter Underwood's proposal to change the framework of the 'charity' to a membership scheme, similar to that of the National Trust, just screamed logic to me - get some accountability in there.
Nigel, you are clearly a clever bloke with more cohonas than the average - what do you think we would need to achieve in order to manoeuvre into a position where such a change would be possible?

One thing I found a bit annoying was the fact it was called "the floater - it just won't go away". This lowers it to the level of toilet humour which while being quite amusing does undermine the seriousness of the topic somewhat in my opinion. I'm sure if it had a more serious name it may have been held in higher regard by the average man on the average boat.

Hmmmm while not wishing to denigrate "toilet humour" which has a long and illustrious heritage ...... you may have a point

I know the feeling only too well But without courageous individuals, the crooks will just get away with it unmentioned. However, the guilty can run but they can't hide forever, and one day Santa may just tip that Elsan down their chimney. ps - yes, maggers has it right, the title was a bit cringeworthy. pps - streetlamps and nooses are the only language they understand.

Its a serious topic. The canal system is being sold down the river.
I hate that but I tend to think there is too much momentum behind it and unless you get some bigwigs or celebrities involved its a foregone conclusion.

Ooh He knows me then lol he's obviously not aware that I contribute £12,000 a year to the waterways. Funny sort of freeloading.

To be fair a cc'er calling anyone else a freeloader is quite amusing.
